Help ... I can't figure why my dash lights in my early 74' 260z won't work after re-re my dash board ... replaced some new bulbs ... cleaning gauges etc. Fuses look ok ? oddly enough the only bulb working is the cig. light ... but no gauge lights? Any suggestions ... could it be the dimmer switch? I'm sure I've plugged everything back in? Guess I could pull out my tach and test if theirs power to the bulbs and work backwards. Any ideals ware to look ... new to z ownership richard

hi everyone. i recently picked up a 78 280Z that has, for lack of better words, a nasty electrical gremlin... I've tried replacing the ignition switch, and it didnt help. with the switch in the off position, everything is as it should be. When i move it to the ACC position, i get the dash warning lights and buzzers, the fuel and temp gauge works, and i also get the fuel pump running (well, that is the fuel pump runs only if i unplug the oil pressure sending unit..). When the switch is moved to the On postion, everything goes away except the amp gauge. and when the switch is moved to the start position, the starter cranks like it should, the car gets spark, but the fuel p…

This has been bugging me for awhile. Frequently when I go to start the car, everything is dead-nothing. I have traced a solution but it does not work every time. The wire from the harness (comes from the ignition switch I believe) that connects to the magnetic switch terminal on the starter can be wiggled and I can start the car. I pared the wire back a bit and put a new connector on it and I now get a better connection but the problem persists. Occasionally I get one clunk out of the starter before eveything dies. Any thoughts on this? Rebuild starter, new starter, ignition switch???

This might be a dumb question... I've been looking through my FSM and I can't find anything about this part. It's not in the wiring diagram, the ignition diagrams or the emissions control diagrams. It's got one wire and its connected to the positive post on my ignition coil. This is on the drivers side inner fender. What is it?

Whats a good way to test the ignition coil? I'm trying to eliminate it as a cause for poor accelaration which seems to be worsening each day. So far I have eliminated the pcv, vacuum leaks, AFM is a year old, injectors seem to be firing fine using the screwdriver test, My suspect list: 1. Coil, i want to replace it anyway, it looks like the darn original! 2. clogged fuel screen in filter 3. shot vacuum advance I already have a new dist. cap and new NGK plug wires whichi will replace this week. thanks

One simple question for all the electrical gurus: Is it worth it? or Is it better to read up on how to do a ground up rewire with modern connectors, relays, etc?

I'm trying to install an original factory radio in my 260z (early) and I've run into a snag. After removing the center console to get a better look at he wiring I find myself with two extra wires. One is blue the other red with a blue stripe. Both have a male spade connector crimped down on them. I'm fairly certain at least one, the red/blue stripe is a 12v connector as an additional 12v outlet was spliced onto the end of it at sometime in the past. I have every other connector intact and accounted for, with the exception of the choke position lead that I believe goes to a molex with two green wires. Any ideas? I'm thinking that as a last resort I might attempt to trace …

Trying to figure out if my problem lies in the wireing or the ignition switch. I have the 280ZX conversion in my 240Z. The wireing diagram says that start goes to the tach and then to the coil. On the other hand, the conversion wire diagram says to bypass the ballast resistor and hardwire it to the start wire to the back of the tach. I see no such thing. (got the wire diagram from www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/StockToZXIng.jpg ) as I think a lot of us did. I am adding a pic of the back of my dashboard so you guys can see what I am talking about. If you have any questions for me please feel free to ask if it will help sort this whole thing out. Thanks

Today I started started on swapping out my 240z 4-wire tach internals for a 280z 3-wire. I've already figured out the wiring, so that's not the issue here. Have any of you guys found a trick to getting that second PCB off the back of the tach housing? In the tach from the 240Z it was glued on by some bondo-looking stuff, and I only managed to get the board off by using a punch on the hardened-putty stuff from behind (and shattering the PCB on the other side of the putty in the process). This isn't a big deal, since I am swapping it out anyway, but the 280Z tach has the same stuff holding the back board down and I certainly don't want to damage this one too. Attached…
