Hi I'm new to the club but its been very helpful so far thanks all. Anyway a few days ago my brake lights on my 1975 280z began to act funny. When i depress the brake pedal the driver side light goes on but the right one doesnt. It is not the bulb...I've changed it and found that it's like the second filament in the bulb the one that makes the light brighter when you depress the brake pedal isnt getting andy power to it. I dont know exactly ...well if any of you have had a problem similar to this i would appreciate any input, but as for now im tearing up the electrical system. Late

On my 73 I've noticed that recently the ammeter bounces around a lot. Usually happens when I have the lights and/or fan running (ie. more load), but there are also times when the needle is rock solid in the center with them on, and then when I turn them off it starts bouncing. I cannot find a consistent cause and effect for this. I saw this thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1868&highlight=ammeter and last weekend thought I would open up the voltage regulator and clean the contacts. But the PO had swapped it for a solid state unit. I opened it up and all looks well, and the connectors all look to be making a good connection. …

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me with this tacho problem. Its a std tacho on my 240z, It was working fine for ages and now when I start the car it only seems to be reading about half the amount of revs the car is doing. Sometimes after a while it will all of a sudden start working correctly but then when I turn of the car and re start it is inacurrate again. any clues? I have another tacho so I am probably going to change it to see if I have just got a dead tacho, just thought I would ask to see first thanks Ash

I have the comon problem of no indicator at times with my "76 260z But has anyone had there headlights go out completly when switching from high beam to low beam? this happens to me at times and it's a real safety concern!! Luckly the lights come back on when you switch it between high and low but a real worry!! Also when driving in some wet weather the other day ( with head lights on) I noticed a burning smell and saw some smoke come from behind the stearing wheel! I switched the lights off and luckly the zd is ok and hasn't burnt to a crisp! There must be some high AMPs runing in that low beam high beam switch! I must have a short in the wiring! Has anyony had the same …

The windsheild wipers work, but in the "off" position they are upright on the windshield. I've been told that the wiper motor needs to have the polarity reversed. If this is true, how is this done and is it a pain in the a.. to correct.

I am trying to install a petronix unit in my Z, but am having a bit of trouble. I think I have most of it installed properly, but I can't figure out where the wiring passes trough the dist. cap. The instructions say that there is no modification of the dist. neccessary... Can you tell me what I'm missing? thanks Matt

I posted this over on the Hybrid forums, but double exposure never hurts: Hey all, I did not find much searching so here is my question: I am going to switch to an Optima dry cell and I would like to mount it in the rear. I am looking for suggestions on how to mount it securely and where. I am thinking either up against the metal lip right behind the seats or in the spare tire well. My reasoning for the first location is to reduce rotational inertia in the horizontal plane. The second is kind of the standard location and increases rear wheel traction and lowers the COG of the car. Ideally I would like to keep the spare, which is obviously not possible if I place it in t…

Last weekend I put a pair of H4 headlight conversions into my 73 240. It snowed most of the weekend and tonight was the first time I could take it out for a drive. Wow, what an improvement! I got them at JC Whitney (I had to stop snickering before I could get myself to actually place the order) and put new low and high beam relays and wiring in as well. I measured an extra 1.5 volts at the headlight contacts after rewiring which I'm sure also helps. I went with 100/55 bulbs, which are really sweet on low beam, and fantastic on high. They have a very flat and sharp cutoff on the top of the beam, a lot like modern HIDs. I live where there are very few street lights an…
