I have an electrical problem and I don't really understand the wiring diagram enought to figure it out . Every time I put a 10 Amp fuse in the Domelamp slot, the fuse blows immediately. Without the fuse, a voltmeter shows about 13 Volts across it. The clock, speedometer, and tach backlighting work but the other gauges, domelight, choke light, glovebox light, and map light don't. Where do I start?

It's obvious that My alt in my 72 is on it's way out. Would I benefit from a slighty higher output alt? VickyBrit offers 2 choices. but I'd like it to look close to original. I could just get one of my old units rebuilt. If you think that paragraph is confusing, you should see the mess in my head!

Everytime I try to start my car it turns over and will start to run, but as soon as I let go of the key it shuts off. I can get it to stay on but I have to hold it between start and on. I thought it was the ignition but I am still getting the same problem can turn it over and keep it running but not with out hold the key just at the right angle. Let me know what you guys think it could be. Thanks Frankenstein Z

What's the deal w/ the alt / v-reg / amp meter in the 73 240 Z? Here's the problem: Car runs fine if the battery is charged up. Disconnect the battery and it dies. I disconnected the main wire on the alternator (the one with an 8mm nut) and put a v-meter on it and grounded it. Only measured about 4.5 volts. I would expect that I could test my alternator like that, but I may be wrong. Is there any way you can test an alternator w/ a volt meter? Or do I need to go to a shop that has more avanced equip? Also, where is the amp meter in the car supposed to sit when it's running? It is the one that shows -60 and +60 amps. I do a lot of work on VWs and just got this …

I have a '72 240Z with a Crane XR3000 ignition system. Everything functions fine:classic:. I upgraded over the weekend with the addtion of a Crane HI-6TRC. Now the tach does not function:cry: . Does anyone out there have expereince with the 240Z type distributor and the Crane HI-6? the HI-6 does have a "tach output" but I do not believe this is what the 240Z tach requires. Any suggestions appreciated.

I have a small problem with my left turn signal I can not seem to run down. The signal has stopped working when I activate the turn signal lever on the steering column. The hazard switch activates the signal and the parking/running lights work. This leads me to believe it is the steering column switch that is malfunctioning. Any opinions??? Keith:tapemouth

Has anyone had experience with Crane Cams performance ignition? Well i have a 240z with 78 L28 F/I engine and i decided putting in the xr-3000 ignition and the ps-91 coil. I got the coil in fine but i wrestled the xr-3000 all day long and never got it in. It consisted of removing the stock pickup coil and reluctor and replacing it with thier own version thats controlled by a special computer that fires the coil. I had two main problems. The coil wire fired fine...but spark from the spark plug wires would only spark once maybe twice when cranking. I adjusted the hell out of the thing and could not get it to work. The other problem is if you take out the stock pick up coil,…
