here is my latest issue, I ask the wife to go for a ride to Abeline KS in my 1972 240z. She was nice enough to cough up 20 bucks for my latest junk yard forray. ( I got a drivers seat back from a 280z and a console compartment cover and some vent ducts) Anyways we are having a nice drive but as i slow down, the radio dies out, then the headlights dim.....i pull in to the kwikmart and then the car dies....and wont re-start!!! I turn the ignition and i hear a click only. i pound on the starter and it only clicks...finally i get a jump from a nice fellow and the car starts right up the first try...so i drive straight home. Once at home i shut off the car and attempt a …

I seem to have a short somewhere in the electrical system since the voltmeter continues to read 12 volts even with the key out of the ignition and I get massive overcharging with the engine running (already fried 1 battery). I think I've isolated the problem though. There are 4 fusible links on the passenger-side inner fender wall. When I remove the one thats closest to the front of the car/farthest from the engine, the voltmeter shows normal charging when the engine is running and drops to zero when the key is removed (just the way it should) and the battery stays charged overnight. The wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual require an electron microscope to read so I don…

Ok so i'm driving to work at 5am and its still dark, and raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock. (I'm in the army and have to show up ro PT {physical training}, all of a sudden the headlights and gauge lights get reall bright, then there is a flash and both head lights go out. All other lights work, so i think i blew 2 fuses? and i check em but they are both intact. I just bought these 2 hologen lights at Autozone In Abeline Kansas a month ago. Hey long story short, i take both lights back to AZ and the manager gives me 2 more lights, and does not even bug me for a reciept, and says good luck I have replaced both lights and have replaced some electrical connec…

Alright guys, my ignition lock is screwed up, and I'm not going to spend the $100+ to get a new one. I want to make it a push button ignition. I'm pretty advanced with electrical work, so I know what I'm doing. But I just figured I would check to see if anyone had any information that would be helpful to me? I am going to just wire it to one switch, then a push button for the starter. I know how to do that and all, but i'm just wondering which wires I need to use and all. Which wire is hot all the time? Which one(s) are hot when in the run position? Which one is the starter wire? Thanks guys! BTW, this is a 72 240z 4spd

I was given a brand new set of 6 trumpet musical air horns and I just have to fit them now! I know its a bit of a boy racer thing but i suppose its a period accessory??:stupid: In a bit of a dilemma as to where to mount the switch for them as i dont want to hack into the dask which is crack free. Any ideas? Also where is the best place to mount the air compressor without drilling into the inner fender??

My dash lights and tail light went out the other night. It turns out that it is the dreaded fused box melt down on the inner fuse holder prongs on that circuit. The plastic has melted to the point where I can't get a good connection any more. I bought a spare fuse box a while back in case this happened. My car is a 1970, HLS30-05341 blt 6/70. I always thought that the 70 model had the short pigtail wires. When Iwent to put the spare in I found the original one with the long pigtail wires. Well I guess I have 2 choices: 1) fix the old one, anyone have a methods of fixing these???; or 2) find another long pigtail fuse box. Anyone out there have a really mint long pigt…

1975 280Z - could use some advice on how the control unit (fuel injection brain) hooks up...??? There are two white wires with female butt connectors coming out of it that are not connected to anything. It will start and idle, but accelerating makes it run like it's getting lots of air, but no fuel. Four of the injectors seem to be working, but two don't. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Within hours of getting my 1970 240Z the original radio decided to retire from operatrion. Thanks to information gathered from this site, I was able to remove it (darn heater/ventillation control cables). I manged to finally convince a local electronics repairman that I did not want a new radio but wanted my original one repaired. That should have been a sign to me that he was not really interested in the job. To cut a long story short, I have been driving around with this gaping hole in the dash where the radio used to reside for 2 months now. Well, the other day I managed to get another orignal replacement radio, just as my one put in for repair came back fixed. I…

I'm trying to locate the individual male and female pins found in the connectors throughout the electrical harnesses in my 78 280. I believe the manufacturer may be Molex. I know there are insertion/removal tools and various sizes of these pins. Has anyone found a source for these items? Perhaps a listing of the different sizes and locations? The connectors I'm concerned with are under the dash and a few of these pins have corroded and broken but the plastic connector housing and wiring is in fine shape. It would be so easy to remove the bad pins, cut and recrimp new ones on have a new connector. Any help would be appreciated, I'll keep researching and if I learn a…

Thanks to everyone that responded to my last query about my relay ! This was my first post ever...anywhere. What a cool tool and helpful folks ! Had the relay out in the sun the other day and caught the light juuust right and realized there was a number on it ! Called my buddy at the Nissan Dealer in Texas City with the number and he said it was a good number and definately a relay although his sources didn't specify which one it was. He said (I think) that the last 4 digits specify fuel related; so that goes along with my suspicion of a fuel pump relay. I would tell y'all the colors of the wiring, but some dummy before me painted the engine compartment (including th…
