'73 with manual transmission. Battery died when I accidentally left the accessories on. Recharged the battery, starter motor cranks, but will not start. Got a new battery (was going to get one anyway) and replaced the spark plugs (needed to anyway). Checked for spark against the block...no luck. Checked the coil-distributor wire for spark...no luck. Suspected it was a bad coil. Got a new coil and resistor but still got no spark. Turns out the coil itself isn't getting any power. Did some caveman wiring diagram interpretation...looks like one wire essentially goes from the ignition to the coil via the tach. Checked that wire and it is supplying power from the ignition. I'm…

has anyone done the MSA power windows conversion (internal), for the 240z? I am interested in doing this when i get my next Z, however there are a few questions in my mind... 1) how difficult is the installation? 2) where is the switch wired to? 3) are they efficient? (moving speed) 4) disadvantages?

i think every single line in my rear defogger is broken. is there a glass shop anywhere that sells a rear glass with a working defogger? does anyone sell a brand new aftermarket glass for the 240z? i've got a '72 240z, in which year did the Z come with the defogger going vertically instead of horizontally? i really want to make that thing work, rather than getting that funny looking heating fan. please let me know what are my options, i just painted the thing, and want to install new rubbers, so now would be a good time to play with the glass too. thank you.

Hi Gang, I posted a message to the list but thought I'd post here too so it's documented. Couple things; Car runs great then dies immediately - no sputtering, just dead, making me think ignition. Had this problem before, replace entire electronic distributor (from a ZX) and it's run great for almost two years. The PO converted it from points to electronic. Think the PO cut some corners on the conversion, it still had the ballaster resistor so I followed Kyle's instruction on putting in a GM module (http://www.sonic.net/~kyle/gmhei.html). Hooked it up, everything looked right, but still no spark. Sooo....what's the best way to troubleshoot? I just bought a voltmeter but wh…

The tachometer on my 240-Z maxes out (i.e., 8000 RPM) when the ignition is turned on. Reads zero when ignition switch is in the "off" or the "acc" position. I suspect a grounding problem, but haven't yet begun the search (it's mid-forties and windy here today). Whilst I wait for a warmer day, has anyone had (and fixed) this problem? BTW, the car has a Mallory electronic ignition - has been working well for months. JIM DOZIER

Has anyone thought of building an adapter that will let you use a 72 model fuse box in a 70 / 71 model Z? I haven't looked at a 72 fusebox for awhile, but I seem to remember that it is just a matter of lengthening the wires by about a foot. Since the 1970 fusebox is NLA, it might be worth looking into.

I have a '73 240Z that I picked up a little over a week ago. While driving at night I noticed a burning smell coming from the car and my tail lights went out. upon further inspection of the fuse I found that the the inside terminal for the PArking/tail lights had melted a hole in the base and cover of the fuse box! Doh! that terminal is now basically free floating. The fuse was cracked and had a white powdery look to it. Also it was broken in half. I replaced the fuse and every thing worked until I had to use the lights again yesterday for a 20 min trip. Same thing started to happen but I got to it before the fuse disintegrated. I'm thinking that somehow that terminal…

the tach on my 72 240z just doesnt work. the guy who owned it before me had put in a 280zx 5-speed and electronic ignition, i think it has something to do with the transmission. unfortunately, the previous owner was not very thorough in some of his work and decided not to fix the problem. he said it was something about a resistor or some other crap, but it looks like there is a tach output from the distributor cap that isnt connected to anything whatsoever. i dont really need the tach, i just would like to have it working.
