So I am noticing my dash light were a bit bright, turned the dimmer no effect. (I don't mean excessive bright just bright enough for me to want to play with the dimmer). I don't know if this started AFTER the dash pull or not. I am pretty sure I check all the electrical (including the dimmer) after the dash pull, and all was well, but I am getting old so anything is possible... Anyway 1st order of bus was to look a the wiring of the dimmer, could I have somehow goof that. start by unplugging, no effect full power to instrument lights.. hmm.. So since the dimmer is just a variable ground, I figure the lights are getting a ground from somewhere they should not be.…

Hello, I have a query for 71-73 240z Hitachi AM/ FM Radio owners both current and prospective. Does it matter to you if the the insides of the radio are not OEM? If the obsolete 40 year old circuitry is swapped out for new digital innards does it make a difference as long as the exterior is identical to OEM? Thanks, daniel p.

Hey all, Running into some issues with what I think is the alternator on my 71 Z. I got my battery tested to find that it's not the culprit. Before starting the battery voltage is around 12.82 V and when the car is idling the voltage is at 12.11 V. The car idles lower than I'd like (500 rpm) and thats at full choke. Battery is drained a fair amount after running it too. I haven't checked the spark plugs yet, but I think I'm gonna check them once the car cools down, but I'm fairly certain it's the alternator. Is there anything else I should check before ruling it out to be it? The belt on it is tight and the voltage does go up a little (12.35 V) when I give it some ga…

For the longest time, I have watched the evolution of the Led 7" round headlight technology and recently decided to upgrade to a set that fairly well mimic the look of the stock glass sealed beams at a reasonable price. I did not want the projector Hid look, too high tech looking, plastic, fan cooling, or a blue light hue. The set I found was from Vintage Car Leds who aim their products at the customer who wants the oem glass look with the advantages of Led bulbs. I chose the 3500 series of their lamps which are moderately priced, and appeared that with the bulb (4000 LM) / heat sink installed (no silly fan) would fit in the confines of the S30 housing. Of …

Cap, rotor, wires are all readily accessible and I have new ones on hand. I am finding pick up coils and reluctors but can not seem to locate a vacuum advance unit or the springs for the advance weights. I have found some Cardone reman distributors available that have all those pieces included but thought it would be neat to retain the original distributor assembly that was installed at the factory. I did get all the pieces for the alternator which also was the factory installed unit on my resurrection project. I am not a big fan of Cardone reman products and looking for some helpful tips. Obviously these parts must be available if they are being installed on the rem…

As some have seen, I keep a log of my experiences with 123 here ... https://zclub.net/community/index.php?threads/123-ignition-for-datsun-l6-on-my-l28.25467/ I wanted to share my latest experiences with you without duplicating that thread as I know quite a few on this forum also use / are considering 123. In summary random missing and rough running that plagued me for months turned out to be a cap breaking down and doing a lively plasma ball impression under the bonnet. Short video below that explains what just happened ... I will be experimenting with insulating the cap and clips with spray on insulation and clear nail polish respectively - I’m sure my wife wo…

Instructions on how to install a new inexpensive power antenna to work with the OEM antenna up/down switch. When I purchased my 1972 Fairlady Z-L it only had the 8-track face plate and a loose antenna switch. The 8-track unit itself was missing. I purchased an old 8 track off ebay, 3d printed some parts to build a mock up unit. It does not play but cartridges can be inserted, the buttons work and it looks original. The up/down switch is secured and functional. I am in the process of putting in a secret audio head unit so that I have a radio and use Bluetooth. I wanted to replace the manual antenna with a power antenna. However new antennas operate differently. Original ant…

I have some time on my hands so I've started coloring in a wiring diagram for a 260z. Before I sink too much time into this, has anyone come across a COLOR 260z wiring diagram?

I am currently looking into doing a distributorless, coil on plug conversion on my L24 engine. I'd to gain an understanding of what parts were used in the conversion. Are there any fabrication needs or any other "gotchas" I may not be aware of? I would think most if not all L-series, 6-cyl engines would fare similarly with compatibility. There is no clear how-to online. The goal is to end up with a setup with reliability and quality. Part/model numbers are certainly appreciated. Here are some of the links I've come acorss in researching - http://blakemachine.com/performance_parts_by_blake_machine/datsun_coil_on_plug_brackets_6__4_cylinder https:…

If you want to swap out all of your turn signal bulbs to LED, you'll need electronic flasher relays (turn signal and hazard). I have used this type for over 4 years with no problems, and it's on sale today at Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Audew-Electronic-Signal-Flasher-Motorcycle/dp/B011BTMDQM

I've been working on the ignition system for my 1972 240z, which lately seems like a disaster. I've been working on replacing the old coil and there is a small condenser attached to the positive terminal on the coil with a single wire. It's screwed down to the bracket that holds the coil. I bought a replacement pertronix 1.5 Ohm Coil with ballast resistor, but can't find any sort of condenser for the coil anywhere. I've read a lot on the forums about whether or not this coil condenser is important, and opinions seem to be all over the place. But assuming I want to replace it just to be safe, where can I get the condenser? Or is it even needed with a newer model co…
