Decided to go for the Pertronix Ignitor after installing a remanufactured stock dizzy from Autozone. I had all new ignition components now, so the baseline would be a properly functioning point system. There was also some debate on the correct/best coil to use with the Ignitor – a 1.5 Ohm with external 1.6 Ohm resistor, or a 3.0 Ohm coil without a resistor. The factory set-up uses the external resistor that is bypassed during starting to deliver higher voltage to the coil/points and through the external resistor while running to protect the points/coil. Many folks have gone through this, but I thought I'd go through my install as shown in pics below: The Ignitor 17…

I recently purchased a new dome light to finish off the interior of my Z. The car did not come with a dome light when I bought it. I have power to the correct wires per the FSM wiring diagram (R/L wire - constant 12V) and there is a ground with a female plate connector in the same harness, as well as a R/B wire (ignition 12V). The dome light I bought from MSA has two female plate connectors. If I hook up the connectors to the R/L and I ground the other, the light turns on - a good sign. However, I can not turn the light off by pushing on the dome light. The light only has two plate connectors. By looking at the switch mechanism, it appears as though I should be able…

My Z about a week old. I recently purchased a complete set of used gauges. My gauges, actually my oil & temp gauge was fluctuating after I thought I had solved the problem. So I removed my 46 year old gauge and installed a 46 year old gauge. Much to my surprise upon trying the oil & temp gauge, it worked perfectly. Then I tried hooking up the clock. It didn’t work. Because I have a functioning clock that I built I had nothing to loose and opened it up. I hooked a 9 volt battery to it and watched as the motor tried to wind the spring but it seemed weak. I tried it on 12v from the car. It acted the same. I removed the motor (simple to do) then carefully wound the g…

I just recently acquired a speedo for a 280z. I think everyone that owns a 280 knows what the backside of the speedo looks like. The green connector, shown in the pic, shows it unplugged. I believe it is for the BCDD but I'm not 100% sure. I found it in the schematic but its not clear to me because it doesn't show it as a separate connector. Can anyone verify it is for the BCDD?

New stage II L28 in my 240Z with automatic trans. Got new mechanical fuel pump installed yesterday and took a test drive / grocery run. Trying to put some break-in miles on it. AF ratio looks good, per builder's spec., not smoking or lean while driving. Runs good except stopped in drive. Starts cold easily with some choke. Problem is in gear (Drive) with the car stopped at a stop sign or in traffic. It tends to stall. I cranked up the idle, it's supposed to have higher idle due to the cam. I set the idle up even higher, 1500 rpm in neutral or park, so it would keep running when stopped in drive, but there was some run-on when I shut off the engine. I figure the run-on is …

The lever on the column of my '72 240Z does not activate the high/low beams. I am stuck in high beam mode. The turn signals work, but the lever flops loosely from front to back. I haven't had the thing apart to look at it yet, but this will likely be my first fix on the car once I bring it home (it's hidden at a friend's until I give it to my son for Christmas). I'm sure I can find a video to show how to remove the steering wheel and expose the internals on the mechanism, but I am concerned that I might not be able to find the parts I need. The guys at MSA told me that they don't think the thing I need is being made by anyone, and they certainly don't have it. Is it …

I know we have discussed this before, but I could not find the thread with multiple searches. I was looking for original brand and pictures of original battery from the early 70's. Thanks JLP

Well after one mechanic shop telling me he wasn't conformable working on my 76' 280:ermm:. I bought it to anther to finally take care of my turn signal problem. Currently the hazards work fine but the turn signals don't work at all. I got a call from the new mechanic yesterday. He told me that I have a hazard switch from a 77' Z and that it'll be very hard to get the job done without the proper hazard switch. The one I have has only green wires with different stripes in them and one black wire. He told me the correct one has a blue wire, which is the power wire to the turn signals. I looked online and can't seem to find any hazard switches for 75-76 280z's. I did find…

Is there a trick to getting the phillips head screws out of the starter body that retain the brushes? I have two gear reduction starters that no longer work properly, so I was going to at least take a look at the brushes, but I cannot get the screws out. I tried an impact screwdriver with no luck.
