I have an early 72 240Z. Doesn't look like anything's been tampered with and have had no electrical issues previously. I recently disconnected the negative battery terminal to remove my steering wheel, and when I reconnected my battery my seatbelt light is flashing and when I sit in the seat or touch the throttle the taillights also Flash. I don't think it really has anything to do with sitting in the seat or touching my throttle I think it's the shaking of the car which makes me think it might be a short somewhere. Thinking nobody's ever had this specific problem but maybe somebody can give me an idea of where to start. I'm not an electrical guy and not sure what to do.…

Blowing fuse 1 2 3

Hi guys, I know there is wiring diagrams for research. Which I have looked at. I have a circuit that keeps blowing a fuse. The scenario is that I have a 71 240z I switched from automatic to manual ( I don’t this this is related) I keep blowing the Domelamp/Luz/instru circuit when I press the washer button. I believe this the instrument cluster as well who’s the only movement from gauges is the amp while trying to start. The wire coming from the fuse box looks to be red with blue. If anyone has any suggestions of where to look that would be most helpful. Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

I have been in the process of stripping a car to it's shell. The wiring harness is removed and the engine will be pulled soon. While I am waiting in queue at the body shop, I thought it would be a great time to check and fix any electrical problems in my wiring harness but electrical circuits are not my strong suit. Is there a way to apply power to an engine harness by using an external source such as the battery or an external power supply without burning it up? If I can do that, thought I could bench test connectors, headlights, taillights, dash, etc and fix anything before I install it back in the car. Thanks Gary

I'll try to give you a little history and my problem. Had the car since 2000 ,put an LS1 /T56 in it plus other mods one being the headlight relay up grade . So I drove the car and wore the motor and decided to redo the whole car . So the car is all fresh now paint ,wheels ,motor , tranny , ect . So my old dash harness was pretty much cut up and I got a clean one from Ebay. So I used my old headlight harness and just spliced into the new one. But now no headlights, parking lights, and the two headlight fusses seem to be grounded . I can't figure out how to fix it . Any help would be greatly appreciated

If interested in refurbishing your 40+ year old tail light lens here are the steps I took with mine after removing the exterior rubber gasket: 1) Before disassembly of the light unit (lens from body), mark the wiring harness left and right. Then number the individual plugs. 2) Remove the bulbs. 3) Remove the metal retainer from the light bar center post as it protrudes from the backside of the body. Please not that if you are planning on reusing the bar, removal of the retainer might require ruining it for reuse. On the other hand, if you are going to replace the bar with a new one, just do what you have to do to get it off. 4) In a sink filled with hot water fully s…

Hello everyone, new to the club. I'm working on a 1978 280z and this thing has been sitting for years. So to start out I drained the fuel tank and put new fuel in, changed engine oil/ filter, installed new spark plugs & wires. All while I was waiting for a new ignition switch to show up. So once I got the ignition switch installed I started to crank it over trying to get a start. It wouldn't start so I took off the air measuring device and tried some starting fluid. It backfired on me. I verified I had spark at my plugs. I ended up going under the car and checking the voltage at the fuel pump while cranking and I had 0 volts going to the pump itself. Can someone help …

I'm working on upgrading electrical system. My car is '75 280z. My goal is : Replace Alternator to CS144 with removing external voltage regulator. Remove Shunt. Add extra fuse with install Maxi-fuse box. (75 has only 2 fusible link) Add ignition relay (75 does not have it) Swap Ammeter and Voltmeter My '75 280z has only 5 wire for external voltage regulator. When I googled, several people encounter issue for the missing #1 wire, which is green/red colored. Blues web site is always helpful. There is answer for this. HELP 75 Alternator swap I just create illustration for this solution. I will keep update the progress.

On my last drive of this past driving season, my engine overheated. It wasn't intended to be the last drive, but unfortunately that's how things worked out. The failure was a split in one of my engine compartment coolant lines and I lost most of the coolant. I didn't know anything was wrong until it was too late. I never noticed the temp gauge creeping up and I didn't know there was any problem until I saw wisps of steam while sitting at a traffic light. And by that point, it was too late... The coolant was gone, the engine was overheated, and the temperature gauge was pegged hot. It became clear that even though I believed I scanned my gauges frequently, it was…

The headlights on our "new" '72 240Z are all but useless (especially in the rain as we're learning this week). I need the quickest route to better lighting. I have received some great advice on the subject from my original thread (http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/59179-brand-new-owner-need-help-w-christmas-gift-ideas-for-my-kid/) and I DO plan to take it. I will upgrade the alternator to a modern unit and buy the headlight wiring harness (http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic10l/12-4651) that y'all recommended. But at the moment, I HAVE to address our exhaust system (setting off neighbors' alarms, etc) and I can't tackle everything at once. The car i…

I have had a few ask if there is any problem running the 123ignition with the old tachometer. To my knowledge there is no problem. However, if you do need to have your tachometer repaired there are two companies that do the conversions to add modern electronics so they will work with the modern ignitions of today. I had mine repaired in 2006 by JDO in the UK. I can't say enough good about them and their service. They are: http://www.jdo1.com/ and http://www.nisonger.com/ If you have any issues and fixes post them here.

Does anyone have any experience with this electronic points replacement? I have a 71 240z that I am wanting to replace the points with a electronic system. I have heard about replacement of the tach and distributor with a zx model. Just curious if anyone has replaced stock ignition system with a electronic system with minimal mods to the the chassis.
