As some of you have experienced, my turn signals suddenly quit. Now I need help. When RedBird arrived here on 3/15, they were not working. Being a compulsive person, I continued to use them, it is so ingrained in me. After months of being without and driving cautiously with hand signals, they suddenly started working again. Hooray! They continued to work until 8/16 the right side quit. Sam the mechanic that was installing the A/C, replaced the bulb. Yay, that was easy. Now, about a week ago they both quit again. I am searching for what I need to do to get them working. Mark suggested that I use a volt meter and check the connections. And also put s…

I am attempting to upgrade my '71 externally regulated alternator to a CS144 alternator. Ive used the MSA converter plug which rearranges the appropriate wires, and includes the diode required. I connected the 12v constant wire (yellow on T plug) to the S "sense" wire on the 4 prong alternator output. I connected the other wire from the T plug "switched" to the F "field" plug. I start the car and I am not getting any charge. It's sitting at ~12.5volts. All the documentation out there talks about 280z, these have I believe a discharge lamp. This is considered an excited correct? Does a 240z require some sort of resistor in it's place to "jump st…

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I did note my switch getting hot when operating that power antenna. I put the switch in a small baggie and pumped in enough electrical contact cleaner in (aerosol can) to flood the entire switch, Then operated it while still in the baggie several times (not hooked up). After I also wiped the extended antenna down with some fine steel wool to polish up the metal. Plugged the switch back in, there was a noticeable improvement the speed of the antenna and the switch did not get warm at all. I prob should done one step at a time to see if it was the cleaning of the antenna or the switch in the electrical contact clean…

My son has a 1973 240z with stock ignition, weber 40's and headers. We have purchased a MSD 6AL, Blaster 2 coil, and 1979 280Zx e12-80 distributor Does anyone have a good wiring diagram to use? After looking at the directions and searching the internet there seems to be a few ways to do this and we would like the Tach to work. It sounds like some folks use the 8920 tach adapter and some don't. Any help would be appreciated before we tackle the job. Thank you. Eric

Since I currently have all of the stereo equipment out of my 240z I am tossing around some ideas of what I want. I have an original and working auto-seeking AM radio for my car that works and would really like to install it as I think it makes the car look period correct and I could use the power antenna switch to raise and lower the antenna. However, when I drive the car I would like to listen to FM radio as AM does not offer much and utilize Bluetooth when needed. I have a nice Alpine AM/FM/CD/MP3/BT stereo that I have been using but I never use the CD player, really just FM and BT. My question is, could I install the AM radio in the stock location and install a CD-…

Hello, I purchased a retro sound radio recently. Works great. Kind of. it loses all it's memory after starting. I contact retrosound directly, they figure it's from too much voltage drop during start, or a bad ground. Tested on an old battery, and new. The following stats are from the new battery. 12.2v off. During start, my constant power wire is showing a drop down to 10.5v. After reading online, this seems normal. Retrosound says the constant is the one which usually causes this issue. initially I had the radio set, so the switched power was connect to the "on" portion of the ignition. Meaning, my fuel pump runs as well wh…

Does anyone have the dimensions and a photo(s) of the original battery (manufactured by Yuasa) that was installed in the Series 1 cars? The dealer says that the current part number for the Group 24C battery is 999M1-NB24C. I want to verify that the dimensions, terminal post positions, and appearance are close to original. Thanks, Keith

Does anyone know how do i need to route the wires that go to the rear speaker panel sold by MSA in the trunk of the car? I will be installing the transmission tunnel vinyl trim and would not like to miss the correct routing of the rear speaker panel. I only found this diagram on the web but it tells me nothing. i think the routing of the front speaker is really straight forward.

Ever since I purchased my '71 240z the power antenna has not worked. I pulled the hatch panel out to reveal the original single speaker a Harada model 6424 power antenna. It does not have the bullet tip at the end of the mast but instead has a squarish cylinder. I tried putting 12v to the wires each way and got nothing. I had to open it up in order to manually wind the rest of the mast down so I could remove it from the car. With it on the bench I could see how much rust it had that might have lead to its demise. Before giving up on it I would like to dis-assemble it and possibly rebuild it. I was hoping to find a guide that ilustrated this as it seems very easy th…

I've got a short somewhere... Ok actually found a few but not the actual problem... New motor is in with new matchbox dizzy and alternator. Old ignition box unplugged and alty wiring has been double and triple checked (and more). Car runs great and I'm excited to go places but I have a lighting issue that is keeping me off the road for obvious safety reasons. I first noticed it on my first early morning drive when I could not see the cluster. No dash lights and no running lights. I checked all the fuses and they are fine. So checked everything the car has: Headlights, brights blower fan, brake lights, Hazards, Turn signals all work. Wipers do not. I've read about a…

Need some help and direction. Headlights flicker sometimes over bumps. Found that if I tap on my relays with the lights on the lights flicker and the relays chatter. This is a 71 which I upgraded to relays . Oddly I have my fuel pump on a relay also and I can get it to chatter also by tapping it. Only thing I think they share in common is the power source. The main power comes from a power strip that I have connected directly to the back of the alternator . Pretty sure the grounds are different between the headlights and fuel pump. Appreciate any testing methods

Does anyone know where the part numbers/boiler plate type ID is located on a stock coil and starter for 1970 240z? I can only see Hitachi stamp cast into some starters. Thanks
