I witnessed a couple rear-end night-time collisions over the summer, so it got me a little worried for my own car. I bought an LED 3rd-brake lamp, and I can add that to the back window somehow (double-faced tape or screws into bosses.) I thought I would like to add a pair of small red LEDs as parking lamps so I can add some extra safety when the brake lights are not on. Is that usually something you would be permitted to do? It's just there to act as an extra parking light, not as a brake light, and when you press the brakes all 50 LEDs will turn on. thxZ

I'm old but new to this forum. I have had 1979 280 zx for 15 yrs. It has 55k on it. Problems have all been with the electrical area of the car. I had the a/c converted to r134 a couple of years back. I had to replace the a/c relay at that time and I think it needs another already. I turned the switch on and neither the fan nor a/c worked. Could there me another cause? If I'm right does anyone know where I could buy them. i had a hard time finding them before. Thanks for any help. Hope to be visiting this forum often.

Went to pick up my car this morning and found several issues which need to be solve. Guys who installed the AC did not pay attention when installing the AC and left some gremlins on its way out: 1. The headlights are on all the time. You start the car and the headlights turn on immediately. Before it took the car to the shop, the headlights could only be turned on when you actÃvate them by turning the TS Combo switch. 2. The front parking lights do not work. Both bulbs are okay. 3. The Choke light does not work either. THey installed the choke cable bracket: https://www.californiadatsun.com/interior/240z-choke-cable-bracket.html. when you pull the choke, the yellow…

After driving for about half an hour my signals stopped working. I attribute it to 45 year old flasher relays. I ordered new Tridon EL12 units for both. I also took apart the signal switch contact box and they were a little toasted so I cleaned them with green Scotch Brite. My question is simple but perplexing. Which of the three lights in the housing are supposed to come on during the signal and hazard and brake operation? Mine have all three lit for signal/hazard and braking. I saw a YouTube video with the signals only lighting the side two.

So I've been working like a madman on my 240z and replaced the wiper motor AND linkage (which I thought was the issue). The thing is this: Before installation, the motor works great and I can even turn the linkages freely by hand without issue. Once installed, the wipers won't move. This isn't the standard "wet glass needed" situation either. Without wipers on, the pegs don't rotate. Figured I'd ask for some help. The connections are all good, wiring is solid and the battery is fully charged. Thanks for the help!! Chris

I have a new pair of fog lamps to install on the Zed, and one bulb wasn't working, so I looked around to see what is available: 55W Halogen, 80W Halogen, Cree LED, etc., I think I would like to get some halogen, so the light doesn't blind oncoming traffic, and it should look about normal to me. But, I read about a large variety of bulbs! Instead of brighter 80W bulbs, there were several suggestions to use PIAA 55W bulbs, as they are supposed to be as bright as generic 80W bulbs? eBay and Amazon had some Cree LED bulbs listed, but I have no experience using those for headlamps or fog lamps. If the PIAA bulbs are truly brighter than generic, for the same power c…

Dim Headlights 1 2

The days are getting shorter and the other night I ended up coming home in the dark and my headlights seem really dim. Actually, this is the first time I ever drove it in the dark. This is on my 76 2+2. I just put newer sealed beam halogen lights on it last year. I checked the voltage on my battery which I also just got last year and its at 12.20 volts. Then I checked the voltage at my headlights for voltage drop and one was only at 10.25 and the other at 10.60 volts. I have new cables on the battery and when I check the body and engine for ground there is no voltage drop. I also have new fusible links and check my fuse box for good connections. My question is, when they …

I had two bulbs go out recently, so it's time for me to change out all the bulbs- they seem to fail in small groups. It sounds easy enough- you pull out the socket then push & turn the bulb to get it out. But when I push the bulb in, you still can't turn it, because there are some small nibs that are supposed to keep the bayonet pins in place so the bulb doesn't accidentally come out by itself. What I have been doing today is to trim the point of the nibs slightly, and sanding the solder contact pad at the tip so you can push the bulb in more to clear the nibs (the solder pad was keeping the bulb from pushing all the way in.) So I would like to ask everyone if…

Dimmable LEDs? 1 2

I talk to car people occasionally (over coffee & pie..) about things. One of them is the Dimmable LED bulb. I never thought of them as 'dimmable' in the sense of what a filament bulb can do, so I wanted to ask to get some information in the context of S30 cars. Are they useful for us? Do you need special wiring or controls to dim them? Should we even bother with them? The only place I would use the dimmable LEDs would e in the gauges, because it's really a PITA to change them every other year (I use the #55, 7V bulb for the gauges.) What are some advantages and disadvantages? If you 'Google' it, most of what you get, is for home-use LED bubs, like you use i…

I would really like to have one of Dave's DZ-Push Button Start modules but they seem to be out of circulation. Dave has indicated he does not have any left and hasn't made them for three years. Does anyone have one of these they are not using and are willing to part with? Shoot me a PM! Thanks! Mark

Just bought 2 EF32RL electronic flashers at amazon. Which is the neatest and safest way of installing the one for the turn signal lights and the one for the hazard switch? Both of the flashers have 2 prongs and one black wire. Please advise. Any pictures?

Was cruising around in the 77 280z today. Is nice having the drivers side seat fixed, thanks to grannyknot (Chris). He had the part I needed. Beautiful day it is! I saw someone I recognized and went to tap the horn and got nothing. Tried again and still nothing. Went back home and traced it (finally) to this. Does anyone have this part? Or know where I might find one. I've searched the internet with no luck so far but haven't given up. Thanks.
