Is the Pertronix 91761 Ignitor II any real improvement (45,000 v) for a 1972 240z? I read it is used with a Pertronix Ignition Coil 45011 which is 0.6 ohms only http://www.amazon.com/PerTronix-45011-Flame-Thrower-Volt-Coil/dp/B00199DPWQ/ref=pd_bxgy_auto_img_y ! In this scenario would i still need to connect to the stock ballast resistor?

So I've been chasing ignition problems lately (see my post re 123IgnitionUSA dizzy and melted cap center button), so I've been going over my total spark system looking for problems. I (re)-discovered one issue with the plugs. Years ago I had a persistent misfire and finally started swapping out plugs one at a time until I found the culprit. You may not be aware that the tip of these plugs is threaded on. That tip screws right off. There was one plug with a VERY loose cap. Threaded it back on tight, misfire went away. Magic. I remembered this last night, so I checked my 6 last night, EVERY ONE was loose from just a little to 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn! Every time you take…

I'm in need of an 1157 bulb socket for my left brake light on my 77 280. Been searching, not very long, and have found one at Amazon but am not sure it will fit. Everyone else I have tried has been out or just do not carry them. Anyone else use the aftermarket ones like this or have another one to suggest? I might be able to repair the one I have but if I can't I will need a replacement.

I'm "refreshing" my distributor on my 76, California model, with new cap. rotor, wires, etc. I see the pick-up coil is also available from a couple of different sources, but I can't find the anyone who still carries the reluctor. Mine is sightly rusty and I'd like to replace it. Or doesn't that matter and these usually don't need to be replaced which might be why they stopped supplying them? Or are most people upgrading to more modern electronic distributors? I haven't checked my air gap yet because I've got to get the right size gauge. The reason I'm doing this is because when I accelerate it sometimes seems to "hiccup" a little so I'll also be checking to make sure the…

Would the 80/100 bulbs be ok in place of the 55/65? I need some more light with the Hella 7".

So in a different thread I was on a search for 1157 bulb sockets for my 77 280. Didn't find originals but after purchasing a couple different types to try and then realizing they aren't going to work, I decided to take these apart and compare them to the stock one. Neither one of these 2 pictured would work as far as fitting tight in the tail light housing. The white sockets pictured would fit but not snug like the stock ones. And the "sockets" were shorter than stock as shown here . So I decided to pull the spring, spring plate, and 2 wires out of the new socket and splice into the original socket housing. Was also able to use the new rubber gasket that was supplied wi…

I was at the local u-pull it yard yesterday and found an 83zx and a 77z sitting almost beside each other. Damn shame.... I've seen a lot of posts about the ZX distributor upgrade on here and on Blue's tech tips so when I noticed the ZX had a good looking distributor still there, I pulled it with the wiring. $5. When I set down to review the process on Blue's site, I noticed that the real advantage seems to be related to the limiting ballast which doesn't seem to exist on a 78. My car runs fine. Basically stock. I was trying to make it just a little better, but I'm wondering if there is any advantage to this swap. Thanks for any insight.

Before I go ripping the center dash apart again, is there any " common " problem that would cause a Mode door to get jammed in the Vent position? Probably once I take it apart ( Again.... Grrrr ) , the answer will be staring me in the face.. but just want to know if there are any Common assembly errors or such that I may have made. The mode vacuum pot itself is actuating... but the linkage only moves a short distance before it jams. It's not like it's seizing or binding either... it's like the door is hitting something inside. Didn't worry about it this Summer... as door was stuck on Center vent and with AC that was fine. But now I'm taking a trip to the West Coast…
