Hello everyone, I was doing some research on swapping out some wires in the harnesses. I couldn't match the Z's wiring gauge to the AWG standard, I later found out the wiring in the Z is under the AVS standards. For example the main ground and green wire going to the fuel sending unit are AVG2 which is 26 strands and each strand measured at .32mm. The AVG2 converts to a 14 AWG wire. They go by increments of 2 for the AWG. Here is the AVS standards website: http://www.seaps.com.sg/cables/cab_general_avs.htm and most conversions is on page 15: http://www.sacramentoelectronics.com/images/bussmann/specialty_catalogs/BUSS_Auto-OEM.pdf If I am incorrect, please corre…

Hi all. I have my dash out doing repairs and decided to replace the incandescent bulbs with LED. I've done the swap, but want to test that they work. Does anyone know the power lead to the bulb lights?

Running back to my electrical gremlins in my '70 240Z as the temperature begins dropping outside, some of the issues become more annoying or severe. The PO of my car had someone 'work' on the car, which for some reason included cutting the pigtail out of the fusebox and main harness, and splicing it together with house wiring connectors (didn't even crimp it. Fail) I have no ammeter deflection, except when running lights, brakes, heater, etc. And the deflection is always negative. Charging voltage at idle (900) is about 13.8V, No more then 14.1 at any given time. I have NOT checked this number with accessories on, so I'll get back with you guys tomorrow about that. …

So... this is my first new topic posting, and I'm sure its a dumb one but here goes. It seems my left turn signal/ parking light socket came loose from the assembly and the harness dangled/dragged on the road until it ate away half the socket. I've been searching for just a replacement socket online, but haven't found one that looks like it would fit. I did find a pair of used harnesses on ebay for $65.00, but that seems steep to me. Is it? Does anyone have a suggestion other than just suck it up and write that check?

Okay here is a wacky tach issue. Not really a must fix issue bit annoying non-the-less. So when I hook up my tach/dwell meter when tuning up our 1970 L24 engine I've noticed that the tach in the dash is reading much faster than my tach/dwell meter hooked directly to the coil. We have stock coil and vac adv dist. I don't know if the tach is original with the car. I assume it is, but we haven't torn into the dash yet. Here is the issue: When my tach/dwell meter reads 700rpm the tach in the dash is reading about 1100rpm. When I slow the rpm down to say about 500 rpm the dash tach reads about 850rpm. When the engine rpm goes up to about 3000rpm the inside tach reads close…

Our Z's use ported vacuum for timing advance. So what's the theory difference between port based vacuum advance and simple manifold vacuum advance? I'm not a timing guy, but I got the basics: Manifold vacuum is highest at idle, lowest at WOT, and in-between when in-between. Port vacuum on the other hand, is zero at idle, highest just above idle, and the same as manifold vacuum everywhere else. I guess the question is "why"? Why do they eliminate the vacuum advance at idle? What's the advantages? Normally, the vacuum source is used as sort of an engine load sense device. In other words, when the engine load is low (like at light cruise) the mixture is lean and you need mor…

Planning MSD 6A (from amazon)with stock points distributor. Will also get a coil and Tach adapter. Anything else I need to go with it? Do I still need a ballast resistor? One comes with the coil. Anything to watch out for? The box will go near the other electrical stuff by the passenger footwell, I guess. Not very experienced with electrical stuff so hope it's easy. Wanted the shop to install it but not enough money after tax day. Is it worth extra $40 for 6AL? Never redline it anyway.
