I am getting ready for the big weekend. You know the one...where you get tools, parts, buddies, pizza and beer and hit the rebuild trail! I have not done a single thing to the Z since I bought it. I have just collected parts for the big day! 2 weeks from now I will be: Swapping engines and transmissions All new bushings and front end parts 4x4 disc brake conversion rear disk conversion Sway bar installation New struts and spring installation New steering wheels New seats Install R200 and corresponding parts. Also installing new Fidanza flywheel and Centerforce clutch and tuning a set of webers. Whew! Anyone think I can get it all done in 2 days with 2 friends? Mike '73 24…

I am considering the purchase of an ITS car and I am not sure I can get out to view it in person. If anyone is near that area and can check out the car please pm me and I will get you the contact instructions. Also, I am not sure that the cage will be current, last annual tech on the car was '01 and I can't tell from the GCR if I will need to update the cage. Does anybody know offhand if the GCR cage requirement has changed since '01? Thanks, Paul

Below is the text from my fourth submission for the Z Owners of NorCal newsletter. Read the Jan 2004 article first for a bit of background on the car. The saying, “Speed cost money, how fast do you want to go?â€ is true in most types of auto racing. At the Vintage Auto Racing’s March 12-14 event at Las Vegas Speedway, this slogan once again became apparent. What makes competition within VARA rather unique is there are often a wide variety of experience and preparation levels on the track at the same time. The track at Las Vegas is a very tight, technical course – the opposite of my last race at California Speedway. Top speed means nothing here; being able to co…

I was browsing through the magazine racks at the train station the other day, and spotted the latest ( March 2004 ) edition of VINTAGE RACECAR magazine, which is published in the USA. Below the name of the magazine I spotted the headline "RALLY LEGEND", so I pulled the mag out of its top-shelf spot to have a closer look. My jaw immediately hit the floor..... Underneath the "RALLY LEGEND" headline was an almost full-cover photo of a red S30-series Z car, along with the appetiser: "We test drive the African Safari-winning Datsun 240Z" However, the cover photo showed what appeared to be a standard LHD road Z with some modifications that roughly resembled the outward app…

I have this big brake set up on one of my race cars. This is the first time I have tried this before on a race car. Here is my problem. Something up there is flexing enough to cause the pedal to be very long in between using the brakes. As Long as I am going straight, the issue doesn't come up, great pedal. If I swerve as to warm up the tires, pedal to the floor. Everything up there is tight. Anyone run into this before? Someone told me they have heard of this and spindle is flexing. Wow! Greg Ira

I emailed the folks at arizonazcar.com about getting the primary and secondary diameters for their Zcar 6-1 equal length header and so far have yet to get a reply - it's been like 2 weeks. Does anyone have this data they can share with me? (Am wondering if it is worth keeping the non-equal length 3-2-1 header I have right now.)

A couple of short clips for your enjoyment from the American Road Race of Champions held at Road Atlanta last weekend. It was my first time to drive the track since 1976. I had absolutely nothing for the fast guys but I had fun and I will be back. First clip is of the start and Jose forgetting that his tires were still cold at turn 2: This is just a couple of laps near the middle of the race. I am pretty much by myself as the field was small this year. Only 23 on track. Hope you enjoy them. I had a lot of fun!! Paul
