"This is an 8mm w/sound, 30 min long, conversion to video of our (Buz Fyhrie, Dave Fyhrie, Jack Finucan, Dan & Maggy Hartzel) road trip from Chicago in a Dodge Van to Daytona, Florida for the 1977 IMSA 24-Hour Race. I was there to drive a AA/GT Camaro (green) race car and also be a backup driver on the Mancuso-Greenwood AA/GT Corvette. I worked at Motor Sport Research in Des Plaines, IL who was the race shop that built the 427 CID engine for Mancuso and this Greenwood Corvette. Leaving Chicago we got caught in a blinding snow storm and had to follow a snow plow just to make our way via the back roads to Indianapolis, IN in order to rejoin the Interstate. We stopped in…

Got issues with my 260Z racecar. Currently the car has stock brakes with Porterfield's best race pads, fabricated vents on the front end, and Motul 600 fluid in the system. This combination is barely sufficient for short sprint races of 30 miles or less. Near the end of the race I have to pump the brakes 5-7 times before I get any stopping power... not a good thing since we're hitting 120 mph on the straights. Eek. I am getting ready to switch to stock endurance racing, which places new demands on the brakes and also limits my ability to use aftermarket upgrades. I know that AZ Z Car has a nice Wilwood setup, but that's clearly not stock and would result in a penalty. …

Okay so in the driving techniques thread I was silly enough to mention the off topic technique known as the Scandinavian Flick and was then asked to describe it. A google search yields a number of results - two of which I have partly copied below into this post. What I think I have thought this technique to be does not exactly match up with either of the two sample descriptions. The latter example might be partly written tongue in cheek and describes an introductory move that I think would be more likely to induce the off road excursion that is being warned about as a danger. There is a lot of discussion and varied opinion about this technique which I seemed to remember …

For naturally aspirated Nissan/Datsun two valve engines, preferably not at the wheels. Particularly interested in the VG30E but L6 figures would be of interest too, together with an idea of what was/was not done. Thanks, US figures are hard to find, particularly for older engines.

Last time I needed racing rubber I sprung for a sticker set of Hoosier 275/50zr15 DOT road racing tires. They are very expensive. Pause for effect. However, after having raced gobs of tires for ages, it's been my experience that Hoosiers are just plain faster. My last set lasted 6 races and produced 1 win, four 2nd places and two 3rds. So if you want to win, you pay the price and buy 'em. And I want to win. I have 15x9 rims (which limits my options on sizes considerably) and I'd really rather not pay Hoosier prices. Can anyone suggest any cheaper option? This is your shining moment. Please... give me any suggestions. Thanks! PS - BTW, this is a full size road course wi…

Hi everyone; Running an L28 in a Z car (1980 engine block, I believe) for road racing. Any recommendations for type/weight of oil? I don't know what the previous owner ran in the car. I'm considering going to Valvoline 20w/50, but I'd like your thoughts first. I'm also considering adding zinc if I can find it on the aftermarket. I believe the earlier cars preferred zinc and heavier oil weights. I know oil debates are largely opinion based, but still, your opinions are welcomed. Thanks!

Does anyone know of someone looking for a race prepped L28 for SCCA club racing? The engine was built by Jeff Winter of Rallye-Sport in Denver, CO. I'm planning to switch to a VK56de to compete in a coming year of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Any contacts would be much appreciated - I have plenty of details on the engine build for whoever wants to know. Thanks for your help!

Like it says in the Topic name, the Ohio Winter Rally "OWR" is on Saturday, February 2, 2013, in Northeast Ohio. The gathering time is 15:00, and the first car off at 16:30. So far the paved roads are clear and dry, but you never know if there will be a freak storm the day before, like we had in 2009 For more information: Neohio Region, SCCA

came across this site when searching for some information about Z's and rallying. noticed a lot of pictures but not much action. me and a couple of friends went to watch this rally and the 09 one, with me videoing for most of the time. start of with the main man Rob in his 260z, driving a Z in that rally how they should be just sit back, crank up the volume and enjoy this one. hope you like it.
