Gentlemen, start your engines!  This is the place to talk about Z car racing!

  1. Started by fp280z,

I posted this on HybridZ.org last night but I figured I'd cross-post here since I could really use some help from the carb experts...and quick! -Rick I don't know if this is too much data (I'm an engineer, can there ever be too much?) but I was hoping someone could assist me in honing in on the root cause of my issue and I always enjoy the threads that have a lot of data to go along with the HybridZ troubleshooting! Ok here's the deal, the SCCA Solo National Championships are less than two weeks away, I spent all last week thrashing to install my new Stahl header and fabbing up an exhaust for it, dyno'd on Saturday and got some decent numbers up top but I seem to have …

2009 MVP Track Time Schedule MVP Track Time (www.MVPTrackTime.com) is very excited to announce our expanded track day schedule for the 2009 track season. It is with great pleasure MVP Track Time welcomes Jaime Goffaux to the MVP family. Jaime is a long-time car pal of mine and is taking on operations of several of our 2009 track events as part of our expansion. Undoubtedly Jaime will run a great event in the manner you are accustomed to. After several years of successful events on the Midwest’s premier tracks, we are looking East at some of North America’s most historic tracks. The “Big 5â€ (Road America, Laguna Seca, Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen and Mid-Ohi…

This was posted on the prodracing forum. Even though it's about a Jaguar, it is Z-car related and perhaps you guys might find it interesting. Nissan of course dominated the SCCA CP championships through the 70's but 1980 was the first that got away from them. The article is a bit biased, but assuming the info is true, I found the "DH" claim to be appalling. Here's the original URL: http://www.jtc-nj.com/jagcorner/GTJNo19.html

I am considering switching over to some Ground Control coilovers. First, here is some information on my car: Early '71 240Z currently has stock struts, 5-way Illuminas, MSA lowering springs, short steering knuckles, PU bushings. 15x7 Konig Rewinds mounted with 225/50/15 RA 1's. '83 280ZX engine, bored 40 over, with '83 5 spd and 4.11 open diff. I mainly use the car at track day events like NASA HPDE and similar events. So far I have only done bolt on mods to the car, since it was a fairly low mile, early car. I pulled the original engine and set it aside for safe keeping. I figured once I retire it from track duty, I would restore it to stock condition. Is it worth goin…

I am in the process of building a 1971 240Z that will be used mostly on the track but also see some limited street use. Track use will consist of track days and high performance driving events. No wheel to wheel racing. I have come to the point where I need to make decisions about safety equipment. I have no experience with safety equipment so I'm looking for some advice on seats and roll protection. I'm trying to decide which seat to go with. There are seemingly lots of options but some are much more expensive than others. I am 6'3" and with a helmet my head hits the roof with stock seats so I'm looking to get the seat as close to the floor as possible. I assume t…

  7. Hi everyone; Running an L28 in a Z car (1980 engine block, I believe) for road racing. Any recommendations for type/weight of oil? I don't know what the previous owner ran in the car. I'm considering going to Valvoline 20w/50, but I'd like your thoughts first. I'm also considering adding zinc if I can find it on the aftermarket. I believe the earlier cars preferred zinc and heavier oil weights. I know oil debates are largely opinion based, but still, your opinions are welcomed. Thanks!

This is a Datsun Z car that had been racing SCCA and other events most of its life. A client of ours owns the car and we are going to freshen it up some and then go vintage and track day racing with this car. You can follow our build as we go along. This is meant to be a fairly low budget but nice build. The owner will run this at many track days with the Destiny Racing Support Group and also at vintage events mainly on the East Coast. Hi, (especially all norwegian friends) yesterday a friend showed me a video that's qualitiy wasn't very good. It seems to be something official from Nissan. It is called "The Datsun Rally History Vol.1" (is there also a Vol.2 ?) and it seems to be published by "Nissan Sporting Norway". The language is english. Does anyone have more information on that or do you know other sources? Rolf

Could you guys help me out figuring which wheels in the 15x7 size including make, style and offset would be the lightest for my SCCA ITS 260Z? I know the Panasport ultralights are made to fit but I don't know which others would fit the bill. Thanks!! Rick
