Had a great time last weekend at Laguna Seca. Took a long time to shake the cobwebs off the driver which are still there. After finally getting a working set of pads and shoes on the car, I proceeded to screw up qualifying by trying too hard and had to wait it out on the beach. Starting way back in the middle of the pack was actually fun and after three laps was attacking the leaders. Set up the third place car for a standard inside pass in turn 11 when as I popped out I realized we had eaten up the two cars in front of us. Just didn't see that coming. Punted the #2 car off and did some damage to the Z but continued. No marks at all on his car. What a rookie mista…

Does anyone have suggestions for how to make temporary windows for a race car? I just need something that will install and unistall easily. It doesn't need to be watertight, but should be able to keep out 90% of the water in the event that the weather turns bad on the way to/from the track. I fabbed up some plexi-glass ones a couple of weeks ago. They were a real PITA to cut. I then drilled a couple of holes on the weather strip edge at the roof line and screwed it into there. That was not exactly an easy install/uninstall. One of them blew out on the way to the track and broke it in two. The other side worked ok, but something fell on it and broke it. I am back to…

* Aerodynamics are for people who cannot build engines. (Enzo Ferrari) * All I had to do is keep turning left! (George Robson - Winner of the 1946 Indy 500) * Anyone can drive a fast car, few can drive a car fast. * Auto racing, bull fighting, & mountain climbing are the only real sports … all the others are games. (Jim Dietz) * Calling upon my years of experience, I froze at the controls. (Stirling Moss) * The cost of racing hasn't increased in 30 years. Back then, it took everything you had … it still does. * Fast cars drag race, fast drivers road race. * Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death. (Hunter Thompson) * Friends d…

Finished a couple of weekends ago my first HPDE driving school. The Tarheel Sports Car club did a terrific job running the school and gave me a very good instructor name Norbert Watts. I had a blast!!!! Here are some photos of classic Datsuns I saw there.:classic:

Asphalt Ventures is proud to announce that we will be helping the 2010 National Z Convention run its track day on Sunday, August 1st at Nashville Super Speedway (road course.) We're still working out the details on event format... but you can go ahead and register for the event from the convention website: http://www.zcon2010.com/ At some point (hopefully sooner rather than later) we'll be syncing the ZCon track day registrations onto MotorsportReg.com. Format will be a standard HPDE format... at least two instructed run groups based on experience level with one group for instructors and solo qualified drivers. This will be a high-speed event and safety inspections wil…

Hi Guys, I just picked up a '71 240Z Track car, that is set up for road racing. I have never had a pupose built race car before, so this car has a lot of firsts for me. It is turbo charged for one, with a Megasquirt system, so I need to learn about fuel injection. I have it at a race shop right now getting a fiber glass front end fitted on it. One of the things the shop owner brought to my attention is that it has a surge tank mounted very close to the rear valance and next to the fuel cell. That could be very dangerous if I get hit from behind or go into a wall backwards. His suggestion was to move the surge tank up under the hood where it would be more protected.…

This guy shows up at a lot of the autocross events at Charles Schultz Airport in Santa Rosa CA. I am told the car has a Rebello 3.X stroker motor in it. By the end of the day he had eaten his fan belt with all that torque. This particular event is at Infineon Raceway, Sears Point for you old purists and it is a Porsche Club event. If you watch carefully, you see my silver 914 - #20 sitting in the grid area in the first few seconds of the video. The guy who posted the video incorrectly identifies it as a Redwood Region event. It is actually a Sacramento Valley Region Porsche Club event. http://www.youtube.com/user/bschoenh#p/u/48/-glHMbw6TRQ
