The final Trackmasters Event of the year is Friday the 18th at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway... This event is short about 20 entries at this point in time and is looking like a great opportunity to attend a very lightly attended event. That means more track time for you and plenty of good instruction if you are new... If Trackmasters doesn't make their break even number, they are going to open up registration to a motorcycle group which will cut down on track time etc... Registration is $210 or $215 if you use Paypal. See the Trackmasters Racing website to register.

Just thought I'ld make a plug for the local boys. There has been a Targa event here past seven years and each year draws some interesting competitors - several porsches (obviously), some Suberu s and several other interesting vehicle types. This year there is a GTR being raced by team Stillen as well as at least one 1972 240. The event kicks off annually at about this time of year and the show starts today with all the cars on display at the St John's curling club. Thats where I will be this afternoon. The address is http://www.targanewfoundland.com/ for anyone interested.

Got back recently from an SCCA double at Infineon. I drove like a turd to include a huge spin entering turn 10 without hitting anything. Still fought back for a second. The car that won, a BMW 325, got protested prior to the next race. Rumor has it(from very reliable sources) that he has a 3+ liter engine in there amongst other stuff. Any way, he refused the tear down and left the track, taking with him a 6 month suspension and $250 fine. Kinda puts a hmmmm on all the wins and track records he's been earning lately. My wife told me to knock off the spins and to take it easy for the next race. Of course I did and got a solid if uninspired win behind an ITA Miata …

OK guys would like some feed back. SCCA Solo is creating a new ST class called STR. It is a street tire class created for roadsters. I have an 83 280ZX I would like to build for this class. Class rules: Max wheel size 9â€ with 255 tire, no rolling or flares, can roll lip. No internal engine work but can do add-ons with cat. Any LSD. My thoughts: I might be able to fit 245’s all the way around, could go staggered but couldn’t rotate. Will have to go to 17’s to get competitive tires in these sizes, looking at cheap, light wheels, yeah I know, doesn’t exist…OK looking for light wheels. Thinking maybe larger throttle body, would triples give me more? I thought mana…

R35 GTR wins this tough endurance event outright, so much for the 'fragile mechanicals' attacks from the badge snobs. Not much scope for the Zeds in this event, see the occasional Z32 while the S30's are too restricted by the rules vis a vis the Porsches to have much of a chance, particularly in Late Classic. There were a couple of S30's entered, one of our Z club members was doing well in Early Classic until damaging a wheel on a rail crossing. Link http://www.sportcom.com.au/targatasmania/ And here is a sample of what it is like, this was a 20th fastest time. Or this one which involves more open country than the one above.

is it possible for a garage hack with very little trans experience and ALOT of spare time to rebuild my gearbox myself?? i installed my 82zx engine and trans into my 71 240 and now want to fix my 2nd gear synchro problem. seems on 1-2 upshift there is a very brief grind with the clutch, impossible without. i have replaced slave cylinder (was leaking in the zx) and properly bled the system. grind is/was present in both cars, don't believe it's the clutch master cylinder. sorry if i'm in the wrong forum, but most racers i know do or have done their own mechanical work. if you think i could fix/rebuild my gearbox, where do i get the technical books and parts for a good perf…

So my Dad had the honor of being at a Lime Rock test day last week...to witness the legend...back in action. As some folks may have heard, Bob has acquired and tweaked a GTU tribute car, replete with the BSR paint scheme. Last week was a shakedown run, that turned into a Photo op. You will also see the BSR Sam Posey GTU car, now owned by Dr. Allan Robbins, which was on-hand. I'm sure we'll be getting more details and pictures from that day, as things develop, but here is a little teaser photo montage. Needless to say, I'm just a bit jealous of my Dad. Cheers, Colin
