Yeh, its getting near tyre replacement time again, the Dunlop DO1J's are just about stuffed. V70A's have become available at a good price, significantly cheaper than the Dunlops. The Z does high speed circuit work, usually around 5-7 laps per 'race', called sprints because the start is staggered and times only count. And it gets very hot here in summer so I'm thinking of a medium-hard compound. So it would be good if those of you who have used the V70A's could give their opinion, compared with Toyo and Yokohama R tyres if possible. The tyres will be used for dry circuit work only, they are changed at the track, no wet weather use.

This past Sunday I stopped over at Road America to watch Marty Rogan and Bill Oaks tear up the track at the annual MFBA October open track day event. They ran hard all day and never had to do more than check fluids and torque lug nuts. Many others were changing pads, rotors, tires etc. Some more pictures of the 2 Zcars can be seen at this MFBA club members gallery. http://www.camarohighway.com/MFBA/2005/RA2005Oct/

Hey folks! We at HounDawg Racing are making huge progress building our next race car. Someday in the next four years, we hope to actually see some of you on the track! While I finish up the roll cage and work on paint and body, I'm planning my fuel cell installation and I have some questions about design for the frame. I see many examples where you folks have built nice frames that protect the underside of the cell--and there's no doubt that the more protection you have the better. But I don't see anywhere in the GCR or ITCS that mandates any kind of frame for the fuel cell other than the steel casing. You have to keep the bottom of the cell six inches off the pavememt-…

Hey guys let get some Z's on the track. October 16th at Sandia Motorsports Park. Every year about this time, we start to wonder whether or not the track will even be open next year. Well, this year is no exception. Things may change during the off-season so who knows whether or not we’ll get this sweet deal next year. Let’s take advantage of it while we can. It’s the standard deal that you probably know by now: Gates open at 8:00 (although, when I get there at 8:00 people are usually already inside changing tires!) Driver’s meeting at 8:45 First car on the track at 9:00 Bring $80 and a helmet and you’re in. Drive until you’re tired. Hope to see you the…

Helmets (even cycling helmets) have those vents on the top or the back, but you don't really feel the air flow or any coolness. So the forced air helmets gave me an idea: What about using a small fan ( 5v computer fan?) to extract the warm air from inside the helmet? It could easily be fixed to the top or back vents, and a 9-volt battery gives power for a whole day- even if you leave it on for a whole day. I doubt if it ever got loose, it would be a dangerous object. There would probably be other, more dangerous things loose in the car than a fan which weights 1.5 oz. (50g). thx

Well, the race for the championship ended in Rally Japan last weekend, and due to consistant 1st place finishes this season, the frenchman Sebastian Loeb of Citroen clinched the Championship for the second year in a row. Now it's a race for 2nd and 3rd. Peugeot's Marcus Gronholm won the rally weekend when Subaru's Petter Solberg hit a massive rock, shattering this front suspension and dropping him from first for the rally weekend.

'Big Sam' - the well known 240Z race car - was invited to participate in the 2005 Goodwood Festival of Speed here in the UK. Owner ( and classiczcars.com member ) NickH drove the car up the hillclimb course, and was rubbing shoulders with some fairly legendary names. I was there on set-up day ( Thursday ) and official practice day ( Friday ) and managed to take a few static pics. See them here: Big Sam - Goodwood 2005 See more information about the event at the official Goodwood Festival of Speed site: Goodwood Festival of Speed Cheers, Alan T.
