We have a nice group of 7 Z cars racing this weekend at Summit Point. I re-rebuilt (yes, twice now) my race engine and it seems really strong this time. Jeff Lucas has won every race at Summit Point since at least the beginning of last season. Mark Gibson took care of a cracked head and should be contending for the win along Jim Cummings. Jim Slechta in the 300ZX is also very strong. John Legg has a strong engine in his 240Z and still sorting out the car since getting it back on track. If I can't battle Jeff for the win I hope I'm fighting for second place. If anyone wants to stop by John, Jeff and I are in the paddock area inside of turn 10. Chuck 0…

I'm not involved in much racing, but I like the occasional country drive or a lap or two on a track. So in the off-season, I sometimes buy a vintage book on the subject. Last summer I bought a very good documentary of the "Greatest Road Race in the World," the Mille Miglia, which means "1000 miles." It's an Italian race on open public roads 1923-1957 that covers a large part of Italy, sort of like the Targa California. I just got another book called The Technique of Motor Racing, by Piero Taruffi. He discusses how to drive, in 1950s style. What book(s) do you have on your bookshelf, or which book(s) would you like to have? Some books may only be availa…

Is anyone going the race that weekend? I'll be there racing my 1972 240Z in the MARRS ITS class. As of now our group has a few Datsuns/Nissans: 240Z, 280Z, 300ZX, 240ZX, 200SX and a Sentra SE-R. I'm sure more will sign up this week. Chuck

I just came across this Hemmings Sport and Exotic Car article about the 1970 SCCA runoffs. It's pretty brief, but has some interesting pictures with captions. I'm attaching the text and pictures in case the link goes away at some point. http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/2009/02/01/hmn_feature11.html Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car - FEBRUARY 1, 2009 - BY JIM DONNELLY The SCCA Runoffs rolled to Dixie in 1970 Like a Super Bowl for amateur and semipro road racers--which it is--the Sports Car Club of America's Runoffs have been fought for blood at various famous locales during its 45 years. If you've never experienced it, the Runoffs pit aspiring stars against one an…

Looking for a good quality light weight fiberglass hood and deck. Need hood that will take high speed stress. Previous hood I bought needed additional bracing to keep it from bowing. Thanks. Terry
