I'm considering a switch to a production class which requires DOT tires, most likely on 15 inch wheels. The only real technical requirement is that it must be DOT, tread pattern is up to the team. My current wheels are 15x9's. I've got four good sets and would like to avoid buying new rims if possible. I'd also like to avoid the $750 price tag that our team currently has to spend on each set of new Goodyear Eagle 10-inch racing slicks (ouch). Maybe DOT's are a bit less expensive? I need a fast, low profile DOT tire that wears reasonably well and is suitable for full road racing at speeds up to 130 mph. Your recommendations are solicited and appreciated very much.

I'm constantly amazed by the smug attitudes I see on some of the other racing forums online. There is this attitude that if you aren't willing to spend yourself silly, you don't belong. The discussion was about scales for corner-weighting and someone posted the comment that if you don't have $300 to spend on Riggs scales, you're in the wrong sport. Really friendly, huh? I replied that you can get weighed for free as many times as you like at most SCCA events and get 4-wheel weights. People ripped me like I was an idiot. Hey, I was just suggesting how you can do something for free instead of paying hundreds, or even $50 to rent a set of scales for the day. I am in the mino…

For all of you racers, I've got a couple of R180 diffs from 85-86 720 4x4's for sale on Ebay. They have the 4.11:1 r&p, use the center bolt retained side flanges and are open. I haven't pulled a cover but I have been told that these have the four pin carrier which would make them a bit stronger(?). They are a direct bolt-in. If interested, search under seller, ezzzzzzz, or contact me here. I only got these for the CV style side flanges to convert my NISMO LSD R180 to eliminate the u-joints.

I heard today that Sunoco leaded fuel is no longer availabe at Road Atlanta or Lanier National (across the street). Have any of you racers (actually racing as opposed to project-building and dreaming about racing like me) had to run on unleaded fuel? My machinist says I should put hardened valve guides in my head to cope with unleaded gas. Since they cost the same from Victoria British, it sounds like a no-brainer to me. I'm planning on running a high-compression version E88 with a stock block and standard rings. In the next block rebuild, I will probably bore it .040 and use a set of oversized pistons from my first race car. Based on this and the possibility I'll have…

Can somebody please point me in the right direction regarding detailed technical specifications of the Budweiser/Pioneer sponsered IMSA ZX V8 No 33 car. I'm particularly interested in the front tubular chassis frame and one piece bonnet/wing section. Was this a success compared to the standard body design ? Has anyone replicated this and currently has a working car ? I presume the original car is sitting in someones collection ? Thanks, Dave

Is there a website that explains all the lingo used in pace notes for rallying? It would be nice to understand what those guys are saying (in english). I don't speak finnish, french, etc., so I'm not iunterested in that. thx

i was having a look on a website at racing clutches and noticed that they were not recommended for street use due to low slip tollerance and that these clutches can suffer heatsoak in these situations. so, my question, what exactly is heatsoak and how is it caused and prevented, is it bad and can it ruin clutch life? Cheers, Tom.

from some sources, I've gathererd these types, or classes of racing you could do in a Z. Thes first types are kinds of rally racing: Gimmick rallies - usually pretty low key events, paved roads, relaxed speeds, easy navigation TSD Tour Rallies - (time-speed-distance) 2 -12 hours long, legal speeds, mostly paved roads TSD Trap Rallies - 2 - 6 hours long, legal speeds, paved or paved and unpaved Performance or Brisk TSDs - 3-12 hours long, brisk but legal speeds, paved and unpaved roads Rallycross - in North America this is an autocross on an unpaved surface SCCA ClubRally - 4-8 hours legal speeds on transit sections, all-out speed on closed off stages SCCA ProRally - 1-2 …

Source: How fast is FAST?? You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter "twin-turbo" powered Corvette Z06. Over a mile up the road, a Top Fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the 'Vette hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and past the dragster at an honest 200 mph. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment. The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds the dragster catches and passes you. He beats you to the finish line, a q…
