Just started Auto-Xing and am hooked! I have this '73 in the garage I have been building into something a bit hotter than the green car and now it looks like this bug I have will turn it into a auto-X car. First of all, NO, I haven't sprung for the SCCA book. But there are a few places on line where the rules are posted, give or take a little......! I have been running in BSP, as that was where I was told to go. But reading the SP rules has me wondering if I am legal. Most of the Z's I read about who compete on a national SOLOII level are FP. I think from reading the rules the basic 'theme' for SP is the car is still street legal. You and I both know you can build…

I finally got around to taking my Z to the drag strip. I'm running a 3.0L stroker motor with bored out SU carbs. 3.7 LSD, with 1983 280zx 5speed tranny, street tires, and my best time was a 15.103 with a .807 reaction time. Is this a good time for this type of set up??? I did notice that my car would hesitate a little around 5500 rpms, kind of went on and off up to 7000. I crossed the finish line in 3rd gear, at around 5900 rpms at 94 mph. I'm guessing my gear ratio is a little tall for drag racing, or I could probably get solid 14's.

Hi guys, I just wanted to let you know about a really cool website (shameless plug:o ) that sells vintage racing posters. I know this in not the Vintage Racing Forum, but I'm a Z guy and I play here too...... Take a look www.classic-racing.com If you want to purchase anything from the site, I will extend a $10 gift certificate to any member. Just e-mail me from the classic-racing site, and I'll set it up. Thanks for your indulgence, Steve

Just bought a new wire-feed! Woohoo! Ought to be fun--after all I have heard about their ease of use.... Haven't welded for 15 years since academy shop and all we learned was acetylene brazing and welding and arc (stick) welding. So, this will be interesting...... Need to clear up some floorpan issues and then start building some frame stiffeners/cage items. (yes, I know I need a notcher and a bender and it is a ton of work and is cheaper to buy one and...........) Anyways.... A. What is the smallest, thinnest pipe size for cages allowed? I assume it only needs to be mild steel and I want the smallest diameter possible and naturally the lightest. I'm sure wall t…

Waited for the temperature to get low and then I used a ball peen hammer to bang on the floor to pop the material off. In less than an hour I was done -- without any scraping, chemicals or flames. I didn't hit things too hard so I didn't leave any dents -- just a couple of little dings that I could easily pop back if I wanted. I found about five areas of rust in the floor. Total about 1 square foot area. See all 9 pictures at EP-Build

Fun facts, or for anyone who is laboring under the misconception that they're fast: Subject: Acceleration *One Top Fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows at the Daytona 500. * Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1 gallon of nitromethane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced. A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster supercharger. *With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraul…

This Nissan ended the dominance of the Porsches in U.S. sports car racing in the early '90's. Geoff Brabham drove the car to a championship in 1991. The V6 twin turbo was capable of making over 1000 horsepower. Even though the Porsche and Nissan cars had turbocharged 6 cylinder engines, the Nissan had a distinct sound and you can hear it when it speeds by! check this! and wait until its loaded. http://www.endorphin.com/sponsors/movies/nissan_gtp.php :bunny:

does anyone know the power rate ratio for a 210 hp 280Z? or a 1/4 miles time you think it might run?
