Shekhar Mehta born in Nairobi on this day, 1945 Shekhar Mehta, the only 5-time winner of the Safari Rally, was born in Nairobi, Kenya. The most grueling rally race in the world, the Safari originated in '53 at the behest of the Royal East African Automobile Association. East African racing clubs had maintained an interest in running an international rally event ever since the road from Nairobi to Johannesburg had become a popular route for endurance tests during the '30s. Logistical problems prevented plotting a race course form Nairobi to Johannesburg. In '53, in an unstable Kenya, the Royal East African Auto Club organizers seized on the idea of a race that would remain…

Did Datsun/Nissan manufacture a "wide body" variant of the Z, maybe for the 280Z series? This ad in eBay claims it has a "rare" wide body from 1975 installed on a 1973 240Z. Or was this just some aftermarket body/fender kit? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-datsun-240z-DATSUN-240Z-WIDE-BODY-HARD-TO-FIND_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQihZ005QQitemZ150082298455QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW (I'm not interested in the car, but looks like it might be an expensive way to get a good 1973 dash!....:-) --Jayhawk

This book is on eBay right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4550027645 "All About Fairlady Z" is a soft cover, superior color quality book covering the history of Z cars. It is written in Japanese entirely. I highly recommend it and would love to discuss the text with someone. The book includes many historical pictures I have never seen, however there seems to be limited discussion about the export variants. Chapters cover major Z enthusiast events - Mad Mike is prominantly pictured and I even think I see a photo of Mr. B - Carl Beck The hstorical photos alone are worth the price. Two thumbs up recommendation from Her Majesty…

Hi all - This thread is intended to assist Will with his latest endevour. (See 240Z Parts Variation). This is a massive undertaking that will be a work in progress for a long time to come. It has been suggested, it might be better to stick just with the North American market for now because of the complexity. Complex indeed! I propose the development of a chart to aid all of us, with a common goal. That goal is, to provide a means to view all models & variations thereof irregardless of export destination or homemarket. It is possible to include the whole "family" along a common timeline. With a reference number system, data could be entered. It would make an excellent…

Can anyone help me with more details regarding European Z sales please ? Primarily the 240Z but I'm looking for figures on all 260Zs, 2 seaters and 2+2s ? Any specific information for France would be VERY welcome ! In the absence of any figures, I'm stumped because the figures I've seen for the JDM and export markets and take away those sold in the US don't add up !

Here's a link to an article I just got. It's from July 1971 Road & Track magazine and is a comparison of five $3500 GTs including the 240Z. http://www.pape.ws/allan_and_rosanne/Z-Car_Stuff/The%203500%20Dollar%20GT%20Article/The%203500%20Dollar%20GT%20-%20July%201971%20Road%20and%20Track.pdf NOTE: for some reason this came out to be a 19MB file...it's only a 7 page pdf so I am unsure why it's so large.

I read a recent post form xxjoeyxxeb that has a link to a video he made asking us to listen to his z-car engine. I clicked on it to check it out (I agree, a valve adjustment sounds like it is in order). The reason for this post is that I suggest you go to the website, do a search for "240Z", and check out some of the videos that are there! There are a lot of 'tire toasters' with their V-8 conversions, but beyond that, some VERY interesting material.... even some with a historical twist to them. Here's a link to one of the several videos that I really enjoyed - "Then And Now-Z Generations Battle" It will get you to the site where you can do a search after you watc…

Hi all, Does anyone out there have the ability to take a Zone 2 DVD (ie Japan) and copy/convert to Zone 1 or better yet no zone? I bought a 57min DVD of historical interest to the fans of both the PGC10 and KPGC10 when I was in Japan last month. Of the first 49 races the original GT-Rs appeared in, it features original race footage from at least 5 of them. There's even some Prince GT-B and R380 race footage too, along with two lengthy interviews (in Japanese) with Kunimitsu Takahashi and another older gentleman who's name I don't know. While I did buy this DVD at the full retail price of 4725yen, it isn't in my interest to make money off of the potential copies. As suc…
