I'm debating swapping out my 4 speed in my 72 for a 5 speed. I've read through about 30 posts and still have questions. As I understand it, I have a type B transmission with a built in bellhousing, and an R180 rear diff with 3.36 gears. I've seen references to 2 different 5 speeds, the late Z, not sure on years, 77-78 only? and the ZX 5 speed, which was 79-8? I've not been able to find gear ratios for any of these transmissions. I understand that the overdrive is taller in the ZX trans. Can anybody provide specs or point me to an existing chart? What about physical fitment? do they bolt in with the same crossmember, fit through the hole in the floor properly, and …

From the threads I'm skimming thru, it appears I can yard the fenders and vent intake off a 71 240 for my 76 280. I have a source up here in the frozen freakin north and that would save me a ton in shipping costs. Any recommendations?

Ok so im new.... go easy now I'm looking to restore a 240z like the one here (http://superstreet.automotive.com/53342/130-0706-1971-datsun-240-z/photos2-0.html). This will be MY 1st project (but I've worked on friends and families cars) car and just like everybody else, i want to go all out. I want to put in a Rb(20,25,26) in it. So Ive looked every where on the web to find one and all i can find are 2 or 3 thousand dollar ones that are fully rebuilt and shined to look like a baby toy and don't get me wrong i like that. The only problem is i want to do all that my self so where do i find one that was just picked out of a car put in a crate. I found one on eBay for 600 buc…

I got a 73 240Z last fall and spent the last year gathering the 72 intake and a header, along with a ton of odds and ends parts. Got the thing running sweet now, but I fear I made a costly mistake in simply replacing the tires with a set of new, in the same size.(BFG's 245/60R14) They look slick on the car, I'm an old guy and like the fat sidewall and raised white letter look. The problem comes in when I get the back end into a slide while curving to the left. the front left tire hits the tip of the lower fender extension. This is easily fixed using a fiberglass spoiler. The second is more significant. The original owner, who has died since I got the car, modified the str…

Hey guys: I've got the Competition Clutch Stage 4 clutch kit and lightweight flywheel on my SR. I'm currently using the stock 1972 master cylinder, and with all the adjustment out of the rod (under the dash) it doesn't engage.... in other words, it's hard to get in and out of first and reverse. I need to go to a larger master cylinder, right? So, the stock one is 5/8", right? And Wilwood makes one that is a 3/4". Or... can I just go down to AutoZone and get a 280ZX master? What size is it? 15/16? I read that with the ZX one, I'll have to drill on the firewall, which is just not a solution for me right now. Is this correct? Thanks in advance, fellas. Jared

just wondering... if i can get some of your guys' opinion... theres a guy selling me a 1984 nissan 300zx, body is in rough shape but everything else seems fine, the engine is a RB30ET and it has 138000 kms on it... just wondering is it easy and worth it to swap everything out of that 300zx and put into my 73 240z... has anyone ever done this engine swap? is it more difficult than it sounds? as well how hard would it be to take the hubs off this car, which is 5 bolt and swap it for my 4 bolt? this is the ad: http://winnipeg.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1984-Nissan-300ZX-Coupe-W0QQAdIdZ224904127#

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and have just purchased a 1975 260Z 2+2 for restoration. Unfortunately the car has been standing for many years and is quite rusted, the suspension, diff and all the fittings are very badly corroded and damaged. I need a complete new suspension set up front and rear and possibly a new diff. In South Africa early Z cars are very scarce, but there are quite a few 280ZXs around. So we were thinking of finding the complete set up of a ZX and installing it into our 260. Would this work? or what would you suggest is the best solution. M-Tune

Hi everyone! I'm new here so bear with me. What newer Nissan engines are possible to swap into the 240z if any. I've been thinking that the 300z and the Maxima engines should work. The reason for this is because I can find rebuilt engines for these cars but not for the 240z unless you know something I don't. If so, let me in.. If engine swap of the older 300z and Maxima engine if possible, what ones specifically and what else would need to be done to the car in order to make her run? Well, I guess that's enough blatently ignorant questions for now. See you later- I'm new to 240z's give me some time...

Hi, and please be easy on me if this is a very profound question. I want to know if the L24-26-28 starter will install onto the L16-20 engine. I do not know which tranny is used (in the four-banger) :stupid:
