I'm in the process of a 73 240Z restoration project, currently working on an auto to manual trans swap. When I bought the car I got an engine & manual trans with it from a 72 240Z. First: Ther is no netural safety switch on the 72 trans, only a back up light switch. Is there anyway to add one? I thought one way may be to use the existing wires that went to the inhibitor switch on the auto and run them to a stop light type switch, and fabricate a bracket the would activate when the clutch pedal is depressed. The only drawback is that the clutch pedal would always have to be depressed, even when the car is in netural, in order to start it. Second: I know the…

Hi Guys, As far as I am concerned, gear ratios are black magic so I was hoping to lean on you guys for advice on how to pair a transmission with a diff. I am replacing the 4 speed in my 280z next year. I find myself in the enviable position of having two rebuilt 5 speed transmissions (1977 280z and 1980 280ZX) and 2 R200s (3.545 & 3.9). Is there any advantage to mixing and matching transmission and diffs? (e.g. a 77 open ratio 5-speed with 3.9 or a 80 close ratio 5-speed with 3.54) And are there different applications for the close ratio versus the open? (e.g. one is better for cruising and hills versus one is better for acceleration) …

I purchased a non running, 78 280z from an estate. The EGR had been removed and a block-off plate had been installed. I put a solid fitting into the exhaust header to seal it off. Under the area where the block-off plate sets, there is a threaded hole. Originally it was fitted with the pipe that went to the header. Do I need fill that threaded hole with a plug?

Would the tailshaft housing bushing for a 5 speed (fs5w71b) fit a 4 speed (f4w71b)? I have a leak after replacing the housing seal and it seems like the bushing is the next possible culprit. I can not find any info on a 4 speed bushing.

Dave Irwin's tech article on the Honda Wiper Motor Swap/Upgrade shows a motor with three mounting bolts. All my research on this suggests that is the rear motor as all images I can find of a front motor show a four bolt installation. I pulled a couple of pics from Rockauto to illustrate the situation. It looks like these motors are consistent for the '88-91 model Civics. Can anyone confirm or clarify what I am finding? Thanks.

Hi everyone! First time posting here so let me know if I’m doing it wrong. I recently purchased what I believe are a set of bumpers from a 1973 240z (eBay listing was unsure) and and am wanting to mount them on my 1977 280z. Pictures included below to help identify. I’ve looked pretty much everywhere and can’t seem to find much information (or any conversion brackets) on how to make the swap. Has anyone here had any experience with doing this? Should I buy the 70-72 bumper conversion brackets and try to modify them or try to find the OEM brackets and modify those instead? I know that, if successful, the 73 bumper with sit much closer than the 77 crash …
