Hi all, I have an interesting question for the experts on this site especially jmortenson. I found an 86 200SX 4 cyl N/A at the JY and removed the KR180 diify. Upon removing the rear cover I found the numbers 37.9 stamped on the ring gear. This indicates that it is a 4:11 which is what I want to put in my car, a '73 with an 81-83 5-spd. I will take the buttons from the spider gears from my R180 3:36 and put them into the 4:11 thereby utilizing my half-shafts and stubs. Thank you, jmortenson for the diffy sticky on hybridz. Now here is the intersting part. I also removed the speedo cog (which was in an aluminum housing) from the 5-spd in the 200SX and here is what I fou…

So I just installed My new SFI-Spec Racing Damper, 70-83 Z/ZX from The Z Store and come to find out the timing marks don't align with the indicator on the engine. The indicator is bolted to the engine block at 2:00 relitive to the damper and the timing marks are over at 11:00 or so when I go to time the engine. I think the removable indicater on the engine is on the correct side and I do believe all is correct with any other bits having to do with timming. Although I will probebly never find an end to the creative changes past owners have done to this car. I debated moving the indicator over to the 2:00 position if no other solution is provided. I think the 510's indicat…

I'm pulling 3500rpms just going 65mph so I want to upgrade to another automatic trans with a different gear ratio but I'm not sure what will mount up to this car. I want better performance and gas mileage!!! So if anyone knows or has tried this please let me know!

Hi all, I am almost ready (still need to set up the SU's) to drop the '83ZX L28 into the 240, but had a question about the vent tube. The L28 tube is capped at the end with a smaller tube sticking out from the side. The 240 tube is open at the end and has a small tube coming from it. They are obviously different and the L28 tube gets in the way of the carburetor heat shield. I need to swap these out, but have no clue how to remove them. I do not want to damage them in the process. Can somebody give me a few pointers? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Tim

can you use a 240z motor and a 280z antenna mast and what is the difference between the two masts. I was once a Corvette restoration judge, and detail on cars means a lot.

I'm just trying to get plenty of input on this subject before I start hacking away. Here's my situation: I have a 71 240z with heavy front end and frame rail damage. Otherwise the car is in great shape from the firewall back, no rust, fine interior, perfect windows. It has a 3 liter stroker motor that runs, but has a blown head gasket, so it leaks coolant, a 5 speed trans, and a LS200 diff. I also have a 76 280z that is in good shape, stock motor that will run on carbs, but the EFI dont work, with 4 speed trans and stock diff. It has rust in typical areas (rockers, lower wheel wells), and a cracked windshield, and a fairly gutted interior. I also have a 78 280z, that was …

Is the 1977 engine/EFI harness swappable into a 76 model? Are all connectors the same and have the same strands of wires? Is color coding the same? If not, can 75 harnesses be moved to a 76? Thanks!

So my car's pretty bastardized (and I like it this way!), and I was wondering if you guys can help me out. I have a 1974 260z with an 82 Turbo engine swap, I know the parts on these little cars are VERY swapable. I have a 1979 280zx parts car and I wanted to take off all the A/C components and slap them onto the L28. I know it's possible since it's pretty much the same, my only question is with wiring. Is everything the same? This is just an idea that I got now at work so I can't really consult any of the FSM's until later today but I wanted to get the general idea. Can anyone shine any light on this? FL without A/C sucks, and I kinda have a date this evening, haha.

I recently put an '83 N/A ZX 5-speed in my '73 240Z. I am having a shifter issue that I haven't seen described in the posts I've searched on here, zcar.com, zhome.com, or even hybridz. I can't use the ZX 5-speed lever without bending it and (IMHO) making it too short to the point that the knob would barely clear the console. When using my original 4-speed shifter, 2nd, 4th and Reverse will engage, but not as far in as 1st, 3rd, and 5th. 4th pops out of gear on occasion. I compared the action of the ZX lever vs. the 4 speed lever and found that when using the 4-speed lever, the actuator(?) moves about 1/8th of an inch less than when using the ZX shift lever. It appears th…

Hi, I was wondering if a 74 260z is the same body as a 74 280z? I also want to know if I can put a 73 240z engine into a 260z or maybe even a 74 280z. My options right now are dealing with my rusted out 73 240z with a good engine and I was thinking of buying a decent body that I can restore for either a 260z or a 74 280z (if thats possible). I'm a little bit new to the Datsun but I defenately want a 240z or 260z for their body type. I'm personally not a fan of the added length to the 280z. Thanks! Mike
