Parts Swapping

Thinking about swapping parts from another model Zcar?

  1. Started by Fender846,

I was wondering if anyone has ever put in a Ford 302 into a 240z? I currently have a 302 and I want to purchase a 240. I have not been able to find anything on this kind of swap. If you have any information and this swap I'd greatly appreciate it.

Alright, so this summer, for certain I will be doing a clutch replacement on my Z (starting to slip something awful) ... Anyway, my question is about using a clutch kit from a 2+2 in a 2 seater coupe ... I mean the advantage seems somewhat obvious ... slightly bigger clutch, somewhat more heavy duty, but less expensive than a Stage 1 kit. I'm somewhat certain that the 2+2 has a heavier flywheel (19lbs vs 17lbs?), but would that prevent me from using the 2+2 pressure plate/bearing/clutch... I've never done a clutch before, so I'm a little clueless :stupid:

  3. I'm finally back on my 240z resurrection project and have stripped the header and exhaust manifolds off the '75 280 engine I have. I never had an engine in the 240z that I bought to compare but I'm not sure where this tube is going to connect once the engine is in place. I am putting SU carbs on the engine and do not plan to run the water heating through the carbs since I live in CA where it is never cold enough to worry about heating the carbs. I have included a picture of the tube that sticks out of the side of the engine and attached to the intake manifold that I took off. Also, I found out that I only have 1 of the 2 brackets that bolts to the block of the engine …

    Will the rear bumper of a 1978 280Z 2+2 fit a regular two-seater 280Z? Thanks! Jeff Woodard

  6. Just wondering what is the difference between the stalks on early 280z and late 280z. Or will a 78 stalk work in a 75??

From the threads I'm skimming thru, it appears I can yard the fenders and vent intake off a 71 240 for my 76 280. I have a source up here in the frozen freakin north and that would save me a ton in shipping costs. Any recommendations?

  9. Just changed the master and slave clutch cylinders and clutch on my 98 Rav 4. The newer parts pushed the clutch pedal bite point way waaaay up. I tried to adjust the Toyota master's threaded rod but it had limited adjustment due to a stop in the "lump of a" clevis. I figured the 3rd party manufacturers in Japan would standardize and remembered that the Z had an open clevis so dug into my spare parts, grabbed a spare 280z master and swapped out the clevis. It worked like a charm: - same rod diameter and thread - same lock nut - same cross pin hole size - no stopper I have a feeling that clutch masters and brake boosters from many Japanese cars may be swappable after…

i have seen a few motor swaps done to my car, i have seen the L28 swap, the v8 and the gtr34 rb26det done to it and i was wondering which one is gonna give me the most output and is gonna be the most reliable after putting mods into it, the only one that i have really looked into is the swap for the rb26dett if it is the twin turbo'd one, i think it puts out like 2** something and i have seen in import magazines that motor being fully loaded and putting out close to 700 or more, and im guessing that L28 might get up to the 500's or close to that knowing that it is a bored out L26 block, and im just wondering if i am getting my facts right or something

  11. I recently bought and restored a wooden steering wheel from a 240Z to install in my 260Z. I don't have the horn pad for the 240 wheel, and I would like to figure out how to make the later model horn pad fit. The 260 and 280 pads, though differing in appearance, are interchangeable. Unfortuanately, the same is not true for swapping between those models and the 240s. Any ideas? Has anyone ever seen an adapter that allows the later horn pads to be used on the 240 steering wheels? Thanks in advance!! -Rob

  12. bought some bumpers from a 71 production 240. went to install onto a 73 but looks like mounts are different. after some research I,ve learned about the introduction in 73 of 2.5km/hr bumpers that sit out from body a little further than previous years. just wanted to locate any helpful info, or possibly a fiche or image of the two different set-ups, so i can figure out a good retro method to get these bumpers mounted. any help would be great, thanks.
