As said on the Z garage website about a T5 swap I raided an 82 ZXT for it's differential flange. However it doesn't even fit on my stock differential! It won't slide on and the spline opening is larger than the stock flange! What's the big idea??

Does anyone know if the 5 speed trans is a borg-warner t-5? Will it fit L-24, L-26 or L-28 engines?

OK, in my '70 240Z, the 4-speed trans is already not original, and reverse gear has some problems. So, while I have the entire car disassembled, I'm planning on replacing it. I have a '78 280Z in the garage with a 5-speed that I'm planning on using in the 240Z. Found today that the only Z in the local wrecker yard is a 81 280ZX. I know absolutely nothing about the car yet, but my question is, if the 81ZX has a 5 speed still in it, would that be a better choice than the one from the '78 280Z? I intend to leave the rest of the driveline original. Thanks for any opinions.

ok so here's the scenario. i found a 1974 240Z for sale. its an automatic. i'm looking for stick. i know people have done the auto-manual swap, but what areas need to be addressed? is the compression different in the auto than the manual? i want a five speed, maybe from a 280Z, as i hear that's a popular swap. what say you?

  11. Ok.. finally I am going to get my 1978 280Z within days now.. as soon as my parents get a baby loan. But anywho.... If I wanted to put in a turbo into my L28, can I use an turbo exhuast manifold from an 280ZX and simply put it into my older 280Z? I know that i would have to get an intercooler and turbo and down-pipe... but would I have to get different injectors and pitons and stuff? or would the engine be safe with just putting on an ZX turbo exhuast manifold, turbo and intercooler and ZX downpipe?

New to the board here, and am looking forward to learning about z-cars from everyone here I recently puchased a 78 280z with a dead engine. I have an engine out of a 76 280z. What potential problems will I run into when I swap the two? I would imagine that for the most part things should slide over pretty easily. My plan was to reuse the 78 intake, fuel injection system, and exhaust system. Will these systems bolt right up to the 76 280z? Thanks for the help guys -frozen
