The interchangeable wheel thread (4 X 114.3) is a great start for wheels but what about other parts? Has anyone compiled a list of interchangeable parts other then wheels from non Z cars? Would be very useful when going to the salvage yards. We will know exactly what would work and what wouldnt! I've heard of throttle bodies, alternators etc.. that work with some of our models but the info is scattered all over the net. Let me get the ball rolling with an obviouse one thats been a brake upgrade for many. Toyota 4 x 4 Calipers - 1979-83 Toyota Pick up (4 cylinder model, stamped with S12 on the side), straight swap.

I need a little advice from someone who has actually done this. I have a '72 240 (bone stock) and I have recently acquired a '83 ZXb 5-speed, a '76 280Z Mustache Bar and now have access to a 280ZX R200 3.90 and Stub Axles. My car has a curved cross member already. What else (besides a clutch) do I need to complete this conversion. Can I use my propeller shaft or do I need one from a 280Z (have read both ways)? Can I use my half shafts with the 280ZX Output shafts? If not can I use the half-shafts from a 280ZX? I really don't want to take this car apart just to find out I need another part. It has not been easy finding the parts I have (I live in Raleigh, NC). Seems p…

Hello folks, I am seeking info on replacing my '73 240z 4-speed. I currently live in the cultural desert that is California City and have nobody into z cars. My local salvage yard has a complete 260 and a partial 280 both have 4-speed trannys. What year 5-speed tranny would fit into my '73? If any one has one for sale drop me a line. (760) 373-2086 or mandtw@ccis.com. If anyone needs parts from the z's in salvage, holler. Thanks for your time -Tom Wolfe

auto-2manual

I'm currently looking at a very clean, original 240z to buy. One problem - its an auto. Now, I'm fussy. Up until now I've not countenanced anything as traumatic as transmission conversion due to the impact it would have on a car's originality . However, original cars are very thin on the ground... so I have a few questions: 1. Does the 240Z compliance plate indicate which transmission it was originally built with? If so, what do I look for? 2. Does an auto-2manual swap involve any irreversible work - eg. cutting the floor-pan? If I can be convinced that this operation will not significantly devalue an original-condition car, and that the swap can be competed to a fac…

I can have an engine for 500$US (800$CND). Is it hard to do the swap??? I guesse all have to be rewired. Clutch needs to ba changed also. Can I keep the 4 speed tranny? Here is what the ad says: Complete mechanic from a 300z turbo 84, 100 000km (roughly 60 000miles, all the wires, ECU, Fuel injectors, etc. all changed by the dealer. Wat da ya think???

As many of you know I had a bit of a mishap with my 260 2+2 a week or so ago and the shell is now beyond economical repair. I had thought about buying a replacement 1974 2+2 shell and swaping all the parts over - dead easy. However, I have found a 260 shell for sale (not a 2+2) and I was wondering about what parts I could swap over to that. I would have thought that the only thing that I would not be able to use would be the prop shaft which would be longer on the 2+2. Does anyone know of any other incompatibilities there might be?

I have this '79 I got for free which I am stripping of any remaining parts useable on a 1st gen....What about the steering rack? Someone told me it has fewer turns lock-to-lock and is a straight bolt-in on a 1st gen. It LOOKS the same as my '77, although it is mounted behind the front crossmember, of course. Comments, please. steve77 (and steve79, although I am not proud of it!)

I have a 73 240 w/auto tranny and I want to put an engine and manual tranny into it from a 71 240. Will the clutch slave and master cylinders just bolt in or is there some cutting and drilling to be done? I've never done anything like this before but I've been waiting a month for someone to do it. Also will the shifter mount cleanly in the same spot as the auto and which drive shaft to use? Any help is really appreciated! Thanks!

Has anyone used a series II 240Z console in a Series I? I'm looking for the forward location of the shifter hole as I am using a T5 from an 83 turbo ZX in my 71 240. If it will fit, what was done with the fuse block? Does anyone have a junk console I could tr to see if it would fit? I'm in NJ. Thanks. Joe

Will the front and rear bumber be able to bolt onto a 260z? Or would I have to make some modifications? Or is it not really worth it? I only ask because I have a 240z with decent chrome bumpers and my 260z with shall we say less then imaculate bumpers (RUST!). Thanks!!!
