How big a project is this swap. I'm a Porsche guy who just got hit hard with the Z bug. I have a w/o a drivetrain from a 71. I have a friend who will sell me an 82 turbo motor, tranny, AFM, ECU and wiring harness with only 80,000 miles on it and it still runs great. What kind of project am I getting myself into. Please advise, I'm trying to learn a new hobby here that I think will be more fun with the people I come in contact with than those I've delt with for the last few years. Thanks James Hamm

Okay was a my local Nissan Dealer asking for parts bulbs of the guages for my 240z and the parts guy pulls out a nissan motorsports dealer catalog. Well needless to say he let me briefly flip through it and it's filled with a ton of info and I was a section about trannies. Well glancing at it I see that you can there was a 5-speed tranny mod you can do with a roadster. It also stated that your required to have a 280zx flanged drive shaft for certain yeared Z, I'm going to double check with that info because the guy had to take it back because he saw I was really interested in that article. It said which transmission, but I want to know is, is the roadster's tranny goo…

Lets say i took a 75-76 280z, with its N42 cycl head and on re-build i threw in some flat topped pistons to raise compression to approx. 10.4:1 #1 would it work #2 would the engine just go boom #3 what kind of performance gains could i expect if it did work Now i assume some machine work wouldn't have to be done to the head the strengthen it a little, but the thought still stands. Matt P.S i chose the N42 over the N47 becuase of the square exhaust ports.

Should I replace all the fuel tank hoses while I swap the gas tanks? Even if the hoses are still in good shape?

Question: What is the difference between the webbed ZX FI intake and the unwebbed 280 intake? Is the webbed one square port because the P90 is? If this is true, is the intake that came off 75-76 N42's also square? I have not seen a webbed intake on 75-76's, so does that mean there are three different N/A FI intake mani's? or 4? (square for n42, then round for n47, still round for P79 and then square again for P90?) steve77

Hi everyone, im new to this site and i REALLY dont know much about the 240 engine ( or even what its called, like z31 or L28 but i intend to read the tech info like crazy ) Right now im really looking at restoring an early 240Z, now my original intention was going to be dropping a 280zxT motor into the restored body of the car. Now, my question is this...is it possible to turbo charge the engine of the 240? insted of putting a new engine in? If it is possible has anyone done it? what are the costs and what procedures must you go through to do it? thanks alot everyone Matt

This is mostly fluff and not meant to be taken seriously. So my wife said I should do something to make my Z stand out. I assurred her it did this already and in fact I often catch people checking me out. In all likelihood they are checking the CAR out but I digress. She mentioned that it needed a backseat in order to carry the baby in it. She wanted to be able to go see a movie in it so making it into a convertable would be nice. She like a few, if not all the styling options in Mororsports latest catalog and wanted to add a few fins. She stated the headlights were not very visable and thought there should be another set of lights up front. Lastly she thought it would …

I've read extensively on this subject and I understand from the Z Garage that when installing an R200 into a 240 you need to replace the drive shaft with one from a 280Z. As 280Z's were not available here in Australia (we continued with 260's for a few years and went straight to the 280ZX) can any one advise how to get around this. Would a late Australian 260Z have the parts I need? Nigel Mulvey Pristine Original 1974 260Z 2+2 (Daily Driver) 240Z Project Car (Proposed)

Is it possible or not to switch the steering wheeel in my 76 280z for a wooden one from a 240. I've seen several on sale on ebay and I really like the look of the wood. Just want to know if will work. Some may consider this taboo. Thanks!
