Gonna start this thread for Cody's motor build. We have 2 - L20b blocks. They were missing the timing covers. The one we started with was the better looking of the two. The second one looks like it has sat outside for a while. The crank snout on the worse one is really rusted. So I bought the 6" inch "long" rods from Nissan. I spoke to Dave Rebello about a year ago and he recommended I get the Z20 rods. I've had these for about a year. Evidently these can be hard to get in reasonably closely weighted sets. 152.45mm rods So the plan for right now is to build the long block and move the current head and head studs over to it. The current L16 head has b…

Rex came by today. I was in the shower so I caught up with him and saw his newly painted 510. I’d say perfect!

So Cody's Wagon is getting closer to being whole. We need to rebuild the 5 speed we had in it because 1-2 was baulky and reverse was stubborn. I believe this is an FS5W71B wide ratio I am trying to source a reverse idler. May have a lead on that. I have looked at @Dave WM 's thread, @Av8ferg 's thread and one that @EuroDat was in. I will probably use Dave's videos for tear down and build but I need to get all the parts here. I will also use Zkars recent teardown thread. Who did people order parts from? Can I just order a kit that will cover most of the parts I need? Do I need to order the bushing for the rear end (Titan bushing possibly)? I have Chas' part…

How do you tell SSS carbs apart from regular 1600 carbs? I am rebuilding some small throat SU's for Cody's wagon but I was unaware there was anything other SSS carbs...

We bought a 72 510 wagon for my son about a two years ago. It had been hit on the front right and it took us a while to get that straightened out. Lots of pulling, shrinking and welding We rebuilt the hood out of two different hoods there are some more pictures of this on the forum, but I don't know where... We are changing the cars color from an Ivory type color to one of the factory orange colors. Last weekend we pulled the hatch and started reworking it but there was some bondo on there, so that required a good bit of metal work and even after that there is still a lot of filler on the panel I will try…

A venerated Z enthusiast is a day or so away from turning a brand new L18 engine over as part of a restoration. The engine is a properly new, never fired L18 assembled with a black no VIN block and SSS parts. It's life has been as a collector piece. A question I have is how many new, never fired engines are out there? I'm not talking rebuilt with new parts, but an engine that has been collecting dust for over 50 years.

Ok, todays challenge is to help me understand how the following broken coil spring situation may have happended. First, a picture is worth a thousand words. 1969 510 rear springs. First two are left and right springs “pieces” on the floor after extraction. Third is the left rear as I saw it initially.

Hoping someone can scrounge their parts bucket (barrel?) for these. I need the nut, washer, and cup washer for each side of the rear crossmember attachment hardware for a '71 510 -- shown in the yellow box. Nothing special, no concours or upgrade parts needed, just stuff to hold it together. Trying to get a stripped roller into saleable form. Thanks!

Summer Age 8 Christmas Age 9 Birthday Age 10 Summer Age 11 I saved enough to buy a BB gun. When going to the store, but before leaving, I had an argument with my mom. She said I could not buy one. When I got to the store (on bike) I had guilt in the store and could not do it, so I bought a football and a chrome Z. My dad would still let us take the .22, so all worked out 🙂 The football was constructed of cheap rubber, and it cracked in half later that winter, when throwing outside in the cold. Canada eh. I got the scales out before taking the 510 off the rotisserie, front weighed in at 295lbs, the rear at 293lbs equaling 588lbs, minus both of the stripped doors at 40lbs a piece and 32lbs for the rotisserie mounts. So total stripped weight for a 73/2dr 510 comes out at 476lbs.
