Hey guys, im currently in the middle of taking out my rod bearings after finding some non-magnetic metal shavings in my oil (i believe them to be copper). I have pulled 2 rod caps, and the bearings both looked like this. This looks like particulate wear to me, and the shavings I saw i feel were much to big to be from these bearings. i havent pulled all of them yet, but i figured i would just ask what you guys thought. I had no rod knock or anything, but my instinct told me it must be bearings. Was I wrong? I have attached a picture of the bearing, as well as two pictures of the shavings. Thanks in advance!

Hello Everibody.. I'm new here.. After more then 20 years being a member of the dutch zcarclub i'm now a member here! For more then 20 years hobbyed with the Datsun and Nissan Z-cars.. "have owned a lot of them" serviced them and drove ém.. (240z 280zx and the 300zx z31 and z32 non and TT) I now have a part for sale.. A Slalom camshaft, partnr is on it saying: E1031 Lookt it up and it is probebly 99996-E1031 On the packing it say's also: 475 lift / 275 duration. I think it a nice find for someone who likes to make a nice racer from his (or her's) S30? My question is what is it exactly and how rare? Thanks and... what a nice new website!!! Mart

Working on a customers automatic 72 . Engine is modified L28 with close to 200 rwhp . New territory for me as far as trans . Trying to protect the engine and drivetrain from an inadvertent shift to neutral while the engine is spooled up . Decided to try some gate mods on the shifter . It seems to work excellent on the bench , but haven’t tested yet . These trans will shift out of first regardless whether the shifter is still in 1st . Selecting second gear the trans will stay there —until you blow the engine up or shift. This trans( 83zxt) has had the valve body modified , so not sure what shift points are under WOT . Need more test and tune ! I have the e…

My car is a numbers matching, very original 1971 (12/70 build) series 1 240Z. I'm getting ready to pull motor and trans before sending it to the body shop for some work and new paint. Motor was running fine, but I am going to strip it and have it rebuilt before re-installing it. Transmission was okay, but it was grinding going in AND out of 2nd gear. I had not changed the trans oil in years, and it was a bit funky when I drained it in prep of removal. I'm just now finding that the F4W71A is not supported anymore and was not the best gearbox to begin with. I've read where good quality gear oil has "fixed" some grinding problems, and I also found where 2nd gear …

Reverse Gear Question 1 2 3 4 5

I have a 5 speed out of a 280zx in my 240z. At first the reverse lights worked correctly but now when the sensor (in the transmission) is connected, the reverse lights constantly stay on. I have tried multiple brand new sensors to no avail. When I put my pinky finger in the hole (where the sensor goes) it feels like something is there pushing in the button on the sensor and I guess not moving away regardless if I’m in reverse or now. My question is this… What inside the transmission pushes up against the this reverse light sensor? Is it possible for it to get stuck? I was hesitant to stick a tool in there to try to push (whatever is touchi…

Good morning, I’ve been trying to mate my 5 speed transmission onto the engine. This should be pretty straightforward. I used the clutch alignment tool when lining up the clutch to the flywheel and removed it after tightening down the pressure plate. But the transmission still not go all the way in. The input shaft seems to get hung up. How can I rectify this? Any ideas would be appreciated.

I was doing valve covers and noticed I don’t have a even color on my cams seems like I’m running lean also on my front carb I’ve already done carb swap from dual webers to su intake gaskets. With the color tune I could never get the front carb to get a rich condition and seems to be running lean still. Compression was 150 on all cylinders five or take 2-3 psi. Values have been adjusted

Does anyone know if the ring & pinion in an R180 are universal to all r180s? I've dug around but don't see this specific topic covered anywhere; not in this forum, not in the internet generally. What I mean is, can you use the gears from a Nissan r180 in a Subaru r180 and vice versa? I know that the case inside the differential housing often has model specific attributes, which is why you need the special half-shaft adapters to use a Subaru differential in a Z car, but are the ring and pinion gears universal from one to the next? Even more specifically, are the pinions all the same throughout these differentials and the ring (or crown) gear is what is changi…

I’ve replaced the bushing in the shifter with a brass bushing to get rid of slop, I noticed that if I’m in high RPM, 4-5k in 3rd, there’s quite a lot of vibration coming from the shifter itself, could this be due to the brass bushing? Or should I be inspecting the mount for play? im trying to reduce the vibrations coming from the car, perhaps my engine mounts should be inspected as well. I switched over to an RT diff mount and it made quite a lot of difference in the rear end.

Was trying to track down a leak and I think I've narrowed it down to oil sneaking out of the threads of the oil pressure sending unit. The unit works great outside of the small leak. Is there an o-ring between it and the block that has gone bad or do they seal to the block in a different way?

Well, we have been slow getting back to work on our '74 260Z because school is back in, etc. After being tipped off in another thread that our harmonic balancer had become deformed with time, we set about taking it off and hoped to either find a replacement (scarce, as you probably know) or have it rebuilt by a company in Texas that advertises this service for these cars. Borrowed a puller from a friend yesterday — the kind that screws into the holes, not the kind with clamps — and just couldn't get the thing to budge with hand tools. (To be clear, we got the big bolt out just fine, but the balancer itself was stuck tight.) I sprayed a bunch of penetrating oil on it …
