Hey all, So recently my '74 260z started to smell strongly of gas inside the people compartment whenever I turn off the engine. I don't see any fuel dripping under the car, and I haven't noticed any performance issues or change in engine/exhaust sound to indicate either a loss in fuel pressure or an exhaust leak. Anyone had experience with something like this or have suggestions of where to investigate? Thanks!

I had a half shaft fail on my 260z racecar a few years ago. Is this a common problem for Z cars, especially since mine has a welded diff? We have a race coming up later this month and I'm wondering if I should have an extra one on hand, and if so, exactly what other parts would be necessary to install it? Thanks!

Finally have had 9070 (2400 automatic) on the road for about a year. Enjoying it more and more as I work some of the bugs out. The worst bug is a vibration. On applied throttle is horrendous, at regular cruise it is not bad but add any throttle and it shakes pretty hard. We checked everything we could think of and finally pulled the whole center section (diff) out of the parts car, put it in and it was a LOT better. I still have some but it is drivable now, before it was just plain scary. All the mounts, all the U joints, everything is new. I mean everything but the center section, we looked it over and put seals in it. My questions are as follows: What is caus…

Howdy all; My 74 260z **racecar** has been retro-fitted with a 2.8L and a 5-speed tranny. I don't know which 5-speed it is. When putting it into reverse, the shifter grinds and will not stay in place. I can use a great deal of hand pressure to hold it in - just enough to get the car barely rolling - and then it pops out of reverse and into neutral again. My mechanic thought it was a linkage problem but it is not - the shifter goes straight down into the tranny housing. What could be causing this? Should I swap back to our original 4-speed before the race in case of failure? The 4-speed is not as fast, but maybe that's the more reliable way to go. Your opinions are appr…

Hi all; Can anyone help me identify these parts for my 260z? Just found a bin of parts and am going through it. Looks like maybe pic #1 is a half shaft? Pics 2 & 3 are the same parts from different angles. Ditto for pics 4 & 5. Thanks for your help! See below.

Time for a new WP. Parts at Nissan Gardena says it NLA. MSA says theirs are cast iron. Rather have aluminum. Any recommendations or bad ones to watch out for?

I have a metal head gasket I was going to use. The bore of the head gasket is about an 1/8 of an inch bigger than the engine bore. Can i use it? Thank you, TimsZ

I seem to have antifreeze leaking down the driver side of the engine under the exhaust. I was hoping it was coming from the thermostat housing and running back down along the side of the engine, but that doesn't seem to be the case. So I guess it is time to pull the head and see what is going on inside and I have a few questions for any of you who might have done this before on a 76 FI engine. BTW, there isn't any oil in the antifreeze and no antifreeze in the oil, so I'm hoping it is just a leak to the outside. Can I unbolt the intake manifold and then the exhaust manifold and just pivot them away from the head (after loosing the exhaust hangers, etc) instead of disconne…

I replaced the drive belts on my early 71 Z about a month ago. I also replaced the alternator with that of a 280z. After this, my oil pressure gauge stopped working outright. Even after driving it for a bit, it does not move at all. The engine temperature is reading. Just trying to rule out the problem, I bought a new oil pressure sensor, and now I can't locate where the old one is. Any help would be appreciated. I have a general idea of where things are in the engine from my repair manual.

Rare find! I purchased this NOS air S30 air cleaner housing recently. Although I am disappointed:disappoin in the condition it is still a rare find. I wanted to put it on my 72 as part of making the late production 72 as original as possible but although NOS it was not stored well and the condition is less than expected.

I bought a project 260Z a few months back and I'm sorting out what I have and I need help with harmonic balancer I.D. Now for a little background. The previous owner bought the 74, not running, with a reported blown head gasket. He pulled an engine from a 75 Z and installed it and couldn't get it running. I'm now discovering why. The original engine came as a spare with the car. Here's where it gets interesting. The original engine [spare with the blown HG] is a L26- #072285 P30 with a E88 head. The engine in the car, pulled from a 75, is a L24 #125191 with a E88 head. Back to the balancers, The balancer on the L24 is a three sheave pulley and has 5 timing marks. The 2 inn…

Hello all, My 1972 240Z with original 2.4L was sitting for 20 years in a chicken coop when I bought it in 2008. It only had 87k original miles on the engine, and I spent some time getting it running well. I drove it without incident for several years until the summer of 2012 when I went to start it and there was a very bad valve train clatter. I didn't have time to look at it for awhile due to school and work. When I did get a chance I discovered that one of the lash pads had fallen off the rocker arm, so I put that back on, but I also noticed that the timing chain was badly stretched, and the tensioner had broken too. So I had a friend who is a Datsun mechanic help me re…
