Correct me if I'm wrong I've been looking for a 81 to 83 transmission. A guy that gave me the serial number off the one he is saying is out of 83. The serial number is 7807108. I believe this is out of 1977, months of production August. Do you think I'm correct.

71 240z auto trans. This summer I installed all of the urethane bushing at the rear of the car. ALL of them. Since I had everything apart back there, I went ahead and dropped the differential so I could clean it up. I also replaced the diff fluid while it was out. It never leaked before i removed it. After I put everything back together I noticed it would leave a drop or two on the garage floor, but I didn't worry about it. Over the last few months the leak is slowly getting worse. Maybe 10+ drips now. I got under the car today to figure out where this leak is coming from. It looks like its coming from the top of the diff, definately higher up somewhere. It's just really …

Hey mates This evening my Z starting making an interesting whining noise. It goes up and down with engine speed and just seemed to appear though it could have been happening for a bit - I have a bit a loudish exhaust. It doens't matter if the clutch is depressed or not. Question I have is this, other then the alternator and waterpump is there anything mechancial that could make a whinning noise? I'm going to yank the belt of tomorrow and run it with the belt off and see if it's still there but would like your guys opinion. Thanks Jan

Most likely a silly question, that I am over thinking. I am in the process of swapping a l28 into my 240. Before I mount the head, can anyone tell which valves would be open on the head. Block is currently sitting at 1 and 6 being up. Many thanks

considering returning to the 240z world after 35 years. my 73 had a 100k and was running strong when i sold it. how many miles do these engines and transmissions last and at what point is a preventative rebuild recommended. i realize that driving tendencies, oil changes , preventing overheating and general maintenance all factor in. Just looking for some guidelines and advice.thx.

L28 engine, 10 to 1 compression, using a D612-53 distributor from an early L24 engine, static timing 5* Pertronix ignition, mild Crane cam. Can not advance the timing past 10* without ping, vacuum advance disconnected because of triple carbs. I have tried 94 octane gas with colder plugs but still getting some ping. I thought my next move was to pull the head and install a thicker head gasket to bring down the compression a bit but my local mechanic suggested that a cam with a longer duration might be worth a try before pulling the head. Is this a real option? This is the cam I'm running right now,
