My 280z is running rich. Is there a way to reglulate fuel mix to the engine? I see no vacuum leaks and idle is silk smooth.

I just replace Clutch Master and slave cylinder and bleed them with HFT Pneumatic Brake Fluid Bleeder I notice something strange. The slave cylinder is fully extended. No wonder whenever I push clutch pedal, it was too loose. Looking at FSM, I could not find diagnostic what's wrong with this symptom. Do I need to remove engine and transmission to investigate release bearing and clutch folk? I just want to drive my 280z before deep dive onto engine and trans Thanks for your advice in advance, tamo3 '75 280z with 4 speed trans.

For the archives: When following the FSM instructions and installing a new timing chain, this works: 0. Configuration: Head is on block with two middle cam tower head bolts at 14ft-lbs; head assembled; Cam sprocket is torqued to 100ft-lbs, Crank sprocket and Woodruff key is in place. Cam is at #1 and crank is at TDC. 71 L24 block with N47 maxima head. 1. Do not install chain guides or tensioner. 2. Drop chain through hole in front of head. 3. Wrap chain around crank sprocket with bright link next to dimple. 4. Firmly pull the chain up and wrap around cam sprocket with bright link next to #1 dimple. FYI the timing chain guides and tensioner prevent the chain from reaching…

Specs: 1977 Datsun 280z, 4/77 L28 Engine, everything original / stock Oil change 100 miles ago - 4 qts of 10w30, new oil filter Issue: For a few days now, i'm noticing that the Oil Pressure gauge shows the oil pressure dropping from ~40 psi down to ~5 psi over the course of 15mins of variable speed /rpm driving. Engine is sounding less smooth, running a touch rougher at idle. After reading previous threads, it looks like there's a few things i need to check first: 1) Check oil w/ a mechanical pressure gauge 2a) If mechanical gauge matches readings with stock electrical Oil Pressure gauge, then look at Oil Pressure Relief Valve to see if it's functioning. 2b) If mech gauge…

Mates I've decided to replace the clutch in my Z, as well shifting is becoming a bit tricky sometimes and I'm almost postive it slipped last evening. Question is this, would getting a stage one (Exedy) clutch be worth it. I'm don't do any racing of anykind - as well I only have one car and I don't need to break something - but I do have a lead foot. Opinions, suggestions are welcome Secondly, since I'm doing a clutch I decied that I might as well get the old flywheel machined. What is the best/easiest way to remove the flywheel without using air tools - as I don't have any? Thank Jan

Hello, I have a L28 in a 75 280z. I want to add a turbo. 1) Are there turbo fitted intakes readily available that I could install on this motor? Does does it make more sense to buy a ZX motor? If so is there a preferred year? 2) And does anyone know if the blocks have any much changing over the years, thicker cores, webbing etc? Thanks Robert

Guys, I got my engine back from the machine shop and it appears they have lost one of the two steel sleeves that help to align the head, gasket and block. Anyone know where I might pick on up in the Atlanta area? Are they really necessary, or just expedient? Thanks Craig

Sometime in the last several months, there was a forum post detailing the design of a wood engine stand. Does anybody have the link? I searched, but couldn't find it. I need to build one today since I'm buying a F54 engine tomorrow from a forum member in Canada and I'm transporting it on a flatbed truck so I want it to be stable. I don't have an engine handy to take measurements.

Im about to join the 5 speed to my L24 with new exedy clutch. I have never done this procedure so what should i remember? Any hints on how to make it right the first time? I might be a bit over-paranoid but that has keep me from getting in too much trouble and on the road (not on the side of it) :stupid:

I begin with saying that I'm sorry that I make a question that has been several times asked before. Been reading the topics, but still felt that I wanted to ask you guys for help with my engineproject. I bought a L28ET (F54 block and a P90 head) for my 240Z. The block has new rings and bearings, stock turbo pistons. The head has been shaved .074", with the proper single cam tower shim, multi angle valve job, intake runners ported and polished, slight deburring of combustion chambers, exhaust side just had behind the valve seat cleaned. So this should be a nice turbo-engine, and when I bought the engine I thought that I would use it as it is+EFI, but lately I've been pl…

78 5-speed seems to be running strong after about three years of rebuilding. However, now that I've got it back on the road, the gear shift is buzzing in all gears. I paid an experienced Z mechanic to rebuild the transmission about a year ago and it's going back to him next week to review my DIY work. I'm fishing for probable issues before I start questioning his work. I'm also getting some whining/roaring from the drive train. I initially assumed this to be the rear end bearings since that was about the only thing I haven't replaced or rebuilt, but I'm now wondering if it is all related to the transmission rebuild. Thanks for any input. Sid
