I pulled the oil pan tonight to fix a gasket leak before I get it back on the road and I found a milky goo in the bottom of my pan. The car did sit for about a year prior to an oil change and restart. This scares me. Little more info. This is a new build. I had the head and block redone by a local shop with lots of Z experience, but I did reassemble it. The car runs (sitting still) pretty darn good with no smoke of any kind. I've run it long enough to watch the temp and idle settle, but I've never ran it for longer than about ten minutes. Been working on it for about three years. The oil I drained does not smell of anti-freeze or anything else. The pan does smell a littl…

I got a full clutch assembly, stage 2 I believe, from and sr20 (s13) and I was just curious if it would fit in my stock 260z? I have an offer to buy my whole sr20 engine and I was curious if it was worth keeping that for my Z. Thanks for the help!

It's the lock pin which holds the striking lever to the striking rod. See this pdf pg 4: http://www.jdmgallery.com/wp-content/Datsun/70-78/1978_280z_FSM/MT%20Manual%20Transmission.pdf I had trouble getting it out as fastd did from his post of a couple weeks ago, however I handed the whole assembly off to a technician friend before I cut anything up. I did try drilling into the "head" of the pin and even a small hole through the lever itself all in hopes to relieve some tension of the hold the pin had on the surrounding parts. So here I am hoping (reasonably I believe) that the lever with its little hole is still reusable but I'm looking for a new lock pin. Anyone know how…

Hey guys, new to the forum just purchased a 260z 2+2 74" and it has a dogleg transmissión 5 speed. I'd like to know if there is anyway of telling where it came from? What car? Year? I have zero experience on the Z's and I'm just starting the restoration on this one. Thanks!

My restored, stock 71 240z has a perfectly good automatic transmission. My plan is to find a manual transmission soon, and hang on to it. Someday, if or when the auto trans goes, or I get sick of it, I will have the manual ready to go. And yes, I will also need ALL of the other bits and pieces to make the conversion. My issue is, should I go with a 5 speed or the original 4 speed. It seems putting a 5 speed in requires some modifications. I don't have a preference to either 4 or 5 speed, but I think putting in the 4 speed would be easier. I really don't like the idea of whatever changes or mods the 5 speed might require. I would just like to hear some opinions on this sub…

A friends 71 240z has had two rocker arms come completely off. My question is, what is the best way to get them back on? Does the camshaft have to be removed? There was no detrimental damage and everything is stock. Thanks Chase

see a bunch of oil pan gasket posts but didnt see a direct answer. what's better for oil pan gasket? cork or rubber? i got a worldpac cork gasket today (part number 11121-E3001) the people at carquest said it actually is a composite of cork and rubber; it looks like cork with black specks in it or maybe just darker cork...cant tell if that is rubber or not. looks more cork than rubber in any case. my search did yield varying opinions regarding using sealants; seems like many that recommend cork do not recommend use of sealant...

The one I bought has a black valve cover and since having it I've noticed a lot of the others have them as well. Would that be the original color? Does the black reduce the heat somehow? Thanks for any replies.

I am going to chronicle my start to finish engine rebuild, engine bay refresh, engine swap and finally performance in this thread. I am pulling out my NA 280Z motor for a 280ZXT motor swap. Bought a 1983 280zx Turbo parts car with hydraulic cam. Goal: 250-270 rwhp on OE ECU with mechanical fuel and boost enhancements. Walbro 255 Fuel Pump Manual Boost Adjuster FMIC Bell Engineering Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator 3" Exhaust I was having a friend of mine rebuild the 165k 280zx engine in Austin, but the engine just sat there since March. He had some family issues come up so I hauled it back to Houston Wednesday. I put it on the stand last night and took a few…
