What do you think, coolant leak? That's my guess. Looks kind of strange though how it is gathering mid block. Maybe there was a little oil there and it's made a gooey mess. I can't be certain with the shop light I have but it seems to be coming from where the head meets the block between #3 and 4 cylinders. I performed a valve adjustment today and the number 5 intake was loose. All the others were fine. Then I noticed that my cam seams to be retarded. Note the close up...the mark is to the left of the "v" groove. Am I wrong for thinking that the only way for this to happen is for someone to actually adjust it so? What do ya think about this? Anyone else have similar situa…

I am getting an engine built up by Eiji at DatsunSpirit, as most of you know. It will be a medium grind cam on a high compression L28, with triples, and a 9 lb flywheel. Should be fairly zippy. I am going to go ahead and do my Type A to type B tranny swap while I am at is, so a new clutch kit is in order. Any recommendations for this engine on which clutch I should try? Centerforce? Stock? ACT? It should be streetable, and not a full on race clutch. What have others used with a torquey L28 and a light flywheel?

So my 7/72 build 240 has the coolant passages in the E88 manifolds to warm up the carbs. Seeing as how this car will never see temperatures below, say, 50°, I'd like to block them off and clean up the engine bay. To that end, I've removed the hoses and the pipe that goes around the back of the cylinder head. On the spark plug side of the block, I've capped the Y-pipe outlet with a rubber plug. Today I bought a set of brass screws to plug the intake manifold and t-stat housing ports. The (generally knowledgeable) counter guy at CarQuest seemed to think it was an SAE thread size; however, they don't seem to fit. Questions: 1. Will I damage my engine by tying off the s…

Ok all, I'm in a dilemma....My son and I are currently rebuilding a '70 that sat in a field for 13 yrs, and the carbs were pretty 'gunked' up. I Chem-Dipped the whole mess, after disassembling the whole thing, but now the housing, though clean, is fairly corroded and the linkage has lost almost all the plating that remained, as well has some rust coating (which I did a acid wash to remove most). (I know this is lengthy...but hold on, I will get to the point) I just found a local polisher that will polish just the bell housings for $90..... and then I went to Ztherapy..... Now obviously, I would love to have all the linkage re-plated, as well as all of the aluminum po…

I thought of this for keeping that stinking gear oil in while moving it around to clean up. It's a 2" rubber cap from Lowes. The other over the gear shifter hole is 1 1/2" and just kept the water out. The second picture is the reverse light right? Just need to solder wire back on and get a new rubber boot, right? Thanks for any help. Cliff

Hello I just wanted to start a thread dedicated to rebuilding my Z. I have already removed the head and the exhaust manifold. I still have a few other things to remove tho. I plan on giving the engine bay a paint job and also powder coating the z parts since they are out of the car. I have been very careful in putting all the nuts in bolts in bags and labeling them. So far everything has been great. I haven't broken any bolts or cut any wires. Thankfully have not had to break out any penetrating oil either. All is well. At this point I am almost ready to start inspecting and cleaning up parts for the rebuild. I do however need a little assistance. I cannot fully rely…

Could I use this in my transmission as well as differential on a '77 5spd? I know everybody runs Redline but this has to be close in quality and is a 1/3rd of the price. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Super-Tech-75W-90-Syn-Blend-Gear-Oil-1-Quart/16795248

I picked up a 6 into 1 ceramic coated header from MSA along with their stud kit and washers. The kit includes 10 short and 6 long studs but no instructions on which ones go where. I am sure the longer ones go where the intake sits on top of the header flange and where do the washers go. My '72 240z has had a L28 long block swapped in to it and several of the bolts holding everything together was mix and matched. Does anyone have a diagram on which ones go where?

Hello I need help putting my z motor back together. the car is a 1978 280z with 5 speed transmission and it also has ac. I will try to be as clear and as detailed as possible. Here is is the low down. A few weeks ago my car was running. It ran pretty good. The only thing that was wrong with the car was that I could hear the chain slacking when I went above 65 mph. ( I am pretty sure that's what the sound was) So I bought a timing chain kit. It came with with the cam gear, the crank gear, chain and gaskets. I took the car to a friends house. We then removed the valve cover, we put a mark on the timing cover to note the location of the distributor rotor. then remove…
