Hi all, I have a 74 260Z (11/73) it is an original 2.6L runner with dome top SU's and a 4 Speed trans. It does run pretty good but I am looking for a bit more. Aren't we all? I purchased an L28 (N42/N42) and a 5 speed transmission (Wide Ratio) from a person who is moving out of state for a couple of hundred bucks. The question is as follows. Is it worth swapping now or wait and rebuild it? I did survey the motor, took the oil pan and valve covers off and they are both very clean, no sludge and no bits and pieces in the oil pan. I suppose I could also hook up a starter and run a compression test to see how well it compresses and leak down test. A five speed transmi…

I just purchased and installed the pertronix ignitor and coil. I'm aiming to bypass the ballast resistor, but really am no good at this electrical stuff. Rather than leave it up to me, I'd be more comfortable seeing pictures of anyone who has this installed. Is it safe to disconnect the ballast resistor all together? With that, I'd hook the ignitor up directly to the coil... But if I do that, there will be some extra wires left (I assume for the tach), and want to be certain that these go to the right places. Any help is much appreciated!

I am getting ready to polish an intake for my 72 240 and found the coolant tube that crosses between the the two manifolds is shot.As in plugged up bent and in general just jacked up. Does anyone know where i can find one? Or can I cap off the holes and not use coolant through the intake? Or can would hose barb fittings and heater hose work in there. Just looking for opinions on what would be best. Thanks for any help

I have a '73 240z, stock. I finally got it to spark (see http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41386), and now I'm trying to get fuel to it. After a month of trying to get it to spark, I may have run all of the fuel through it. I put 5 gallons in the tank and cranked the engine for a good 2 minutes with no success. The fuel filter is dry. I looked in my Haynes and Chilton manuals. Each suggest that the '73 didn't have an electrical pump - only the mechanical pump up front. I crawled under and couldn't find an electrical pump, either. At least not an external one. I took a couple of pictures of what I did see, and I'm a little confused. There are …

Higuys, The engine guy says he's about ready to take the engine out of my car, so I called a place (RPM, Central, Utah) to check on the availability of a 'Master rebuild Kit.' The guy told me the mater kits are available, but only with flat-top pistons. I have an N42 block/ N47 head, but I'm not too experienced in telling if the flat-top pistons will work with my engine, or what affect it will have: Can I still use regular gas? Will the engine run well on the street? thxZ

I've searched the Forum, and have not been able to find any information about 240Z aluminum radiators as sold on Ebay. Champion seems to be one of the manufacturers; there are a lot of sellers marketing their radiators. Koyo is another. Here are some examples: http://motors.shop.ebay.com/__?_from=R40&_trksid=p3872.m39.l1313&_nkw=240z+radiator&_sacat= Does anyone have any experience with any of these manufacturers or sellers?

My 280 currently has a five speed, but I have no idea if it's the original transmission. Heck, I don't even know if the car originally came with a 4 speed or a 5 speed. So... How do I tell if my 280 left the factory as a four speed or five speed? Beyond that, if it did leave the factory as a 5-speed, is there any way to tell if the transmission in it is the original one?

Going to purchase a 240z in the next couple months once I get more dinero and am going to swap a sr20det into it. I know there are a lot of threads about sr20's but haven't found the answers I am looking for. I am going to purchase the motor from Nagasaki JDM Motors located in Canada for $1700 with shipping. Being new to the game, (only 18yrs old) what else should I look for/buy for swapping the sr into this Z?? Any advice/tips would be amazing. Thanks for reading P.S. a 74 260z with 182k miles for $1.5k too good to be true!?!

Thinking about an rb30 build for my 76 z. Does anyone know where to source one from and what would be required for the swap(what type of trans, ecu, wiring harness etc.)
