No reverse

I have a 4 speed which won't go into reverse shifts into 1-4 with no problem. Now this is with the engine not running, I am in the process of building another engine, the one in the car has a dead cylinder and won't start but thats a whole other issue. I've replaced the throw out bearing, have a new clutch in the old motor, new pilot bushing in the old motor, rebuilt clutch master and operating cylinders. I have not adjusted the pedal free play. It shifted fine when I took the tranny out now won't go into reverse. Any suggestions where to start?

Im planning to change the diffy in my 72 and as being a total rookie in this kind of business i ask thou help. If i happen to get R200 (lets say 3.9) is it plug-and-play change or do i need to change other parts as well? My current (R180) is quite loud and it might need rebuilding. R200 just popped in my mind, as some say its the best option if looking to improve the car.

I found a local guy with non EGR intakes. I thought only 75 models had non EGR. He said he has one that is from a 75 and 76 both have no EGR provision. I am not sure this guy knows what he is talking about. Before I drive to go see it, are there any 76 non egr intakes?

I'm about to dive into my my L24 engine to rebuild it. I was considering dropping in a L28 crank basically turning it into an L26. How much power/ torque is this mod worth? I'm getting the E-88 head sent to Rebello for the royal treatment, I have tripple 40 DCOE webers, MSA headers with dual exhaust. I also have the stock 4 speed and rear gearing. This is my first Z car, I've never driven one, so I'm not too sure what to expect. Will the 2.4 be under powered with the current gearing? Will the 2.6 hybrid mod be worth the effort? Has anyone here done this before? HybridZ gave me the duntz hat for not wanting to go with the obvious L28 turbo or NA.

My son's '71 240-Z started making a noise that he describes as like a playing card in bicycle spokes. It's definitely speed relative as the noise tempo slows down as the car slows. He hears it in all gears and even when coasting in neutral. He says it's coming from under the console between the seats. I had him jack it up and turn the rear wheels manually, no noise. He noticed a lot oil residue under the car coming from the transmission area so I thought maybe it was low gear oil so he checked and it took a full quart!. He only had one quart so he put the drain plug back in, drove back to the parts store for another quart - noise was still there. When he got back home, pu…

hey guys. ive ripped my L24 out my 240K, and im looking at freshening it up a bit. ive got a set of early 240Z SU carbs to put on it, that im looking at getting restored. anyone had experience with getting them cleaned and re-coated? What are peoples opinions on what I should do to the motor thats worthwhile. So far im thinking: valve seat grind, rings, bearings, gaskets, bore hone. (Will be doing most the work myself) -been told timing chains on these motors are worth changing? -mechanical fuel pump? change to electric? -was looking at the 280z dizzy, but im not keen on losing my tacho? -bigger alternator worth while? -etc I have no experience with these motors so any h…

I have a strange issue with my new fan kit from MSA. When I drive in traffic, the temperature gauge reads normal for the car, with the needle in the E on the TEMP scale. When I drive on the highway, the needle creeps up almost to the P on the TEMP scale. I think that what is happening is that the fans don't spin fast enough to allow air to pass through them at highway speeds, and are effectively blocking the airflow. As an experiment, I unplugged the left side fan, and it stayed cooler on the highway, with the needle barely reaching the M on the TEMP scale. When I got back in traffic, the needle crept up towards the P, though. I plugged the left fan back in, and the…

I have a '71 with a 260 engine with a header and Webers. I do not know if it has any internal mods. I have only seen it started and running very briefly from a gas can by the previous owner. My question is should I go ahead and have it rebuilt? I have it out of the car and have removed the exhaust and intake manifolds. One of the exhaust valves looks wet with oil while the others that I can see look dry. There is a lot of carbon build up in the exhaust ports. I do not know if hardened valve seats have been installed either. If rebuilding, what would be recommended? Complete? Just the head? Should I go ahead and replace the clutch while it is out too? Same questi…
