Im putting a l28 with the zx 5spd into my 70 240z. I've read its all straight forward from what I've seen, but I have 2 questions, first being do I have to do anything to the transmission tunnel or shifter hole, and secondly do I need the drive shaft from the car im getting this out of?

My S-2000 requires a high temperature urea-based grease.... but it revs to 9000rpm. Is there any special grease required for the Z throw-out bearing or will synth wheel bearing grease work fine?

Need some help with a diagnosing an issue I'm having with my Z. Background on the car: 78 280Z 5 speed, 30K miles, new clutch, pressure plate, tranny fluid and clutch master cylinder about 800 miles ago. Shifting from 1st to 2nd the shift is notchy and grinds a little, especially when the car is cold. Shifts into all other gears fine. The 1st to 2nd shift improves once the cars warms up, but it's still not 100% smooth. No throwout bearing noises or anything else abnormal. My next steps are getting the clutch adjusted, as the pedal is about an inch closer to the floor than it should be per the FSM. Tried getting to the adjustments myself, just can't quite get to them…

For those that want to post something like: "My car has a miss at 9,950 rpm, what's wrong?." "My car doesn't rev past 350 rpm, what's wrong?." "My car gets 3mpg, what's wrong?." "I just bought my car and its running rough, what's wrong?." 1. Download the appropriate shop manual from here: http://www.xenons30.com/reference.html 2. Do a complete tune-up per the shop manual and then follow the Trouble Shooting section. 99.9% of the time you will be able to diagnose and fix the problem.

Hey guys, I own a 77' 280 z and one morning the clutch system lost all pressure and locked into gear. I was able to get it off the road and inspected it for the cause of the issue. My slave cylinder under the passenger side was leaking fluid from the rubber boot side facing the rear of the car. I purchased a new part at a local auto parts store and installed it, inserting the metal rod into the boot like the one i took off. I bled the system and it tested good and i made it about 2 blocks before the clutch died again. upon looking under the car the boot had blown off and was pouring out of the boot. Is this just a bad cylinder, does that happen often or is something else …

Hey guys! New to the forum! I just bought a 1972 240z. Its got a dual weber carb setup but they both need cleaning. It runs and drives. Right now I still need to clean the gas tank because gas has been sitting in there for over 5 years. Im running gas out of a gallon milk bottle. I took the rubber hose that connects to the fuel rail coming from the gas tank and put that in a plastic milk thing and also put the return line in there too. It used a whole gallon of gas just driving around the block. I was in 1st gear the whole time because i couldnt get enough speed to get into second without it bogging down. (carbs need cleaning like i said) im not sure what RPMs i was at (t…

I pulled the differential cover. The case has been marked, probably by a junkyard, as a 280zx. I have a 77 280z 5 speed mfg date 7/77. I spun the large ring gear and it is stamped: H37 10 DO(?) 9 3 6. It also has been written with a sharpie 7 0 6 t 8. Can anyone help identify what this came out of? Here are some pictures Thanks.

I built an L28 with standard flat tops,a P79 head shaved .080 shimmed cam towers and a Stage III Isky reground cam. Everything in the engine is new (rockers, springs, mains, inserts, chain, oil pump, guides, crank pulley, cam pulley, etc. etc. etc.) The engine runs great! However, when you rev the engine to 4,000 and let off, it makes a ball bearing type of noise at 2,200 rpm on the letdown. When you run it up the noise comes on at 2,200 and disappears at 3,000 rpm. I've eliminated the oil pump, the distributor, alternator, fuel pump and water pump as possible noise sources. This is driving me and everyone that tries to figure it out crazy. I've contacted Ron Isky to see if…

Took the differential out as part of my overall suspension, brake, etc refresh. The dain plug had metal shavings Does this look normal? Also removed the differential mount and it looks good. The new one is on the left. I was getting a clunk but found the differential mount bolts were loose. The old mount still looks good and was thinking to reuse it. Not only were the differential mount bolts loose but so were the drive line bolts connecting it to the differential. Do these typically loosen up or was the PO/mechanic careless? I do have a question on removing the differential cover. What is the best way? I don't want to injure it and it is stuck on good. …
