ok my 71 has a metal cooling fan and I would like to replace it with a plastic one from a later year z. I know earlier Z and ZX ones are interchangable but am not sure If I can use the fan and clutch out of a 86 300zx. Has anyone done this or know the answer. As far as I can see it will bolt right up and fit fine in the space but I just want to make sure it does what it is suposed to do...

On my 72 240 the throw out bearing started barking like a dog when i let the clutch out in first gear and seems to be progressively getting worse over the last three days. I am going to change the whole clutch this weekend but I also noticed tonight that the tranny seems to want to grind some what between gears and I have a slight whine in third gear. Could this also be related to the bearing or should I go ahead and start looking for a 5 speed now because my 4 speed is going south and getting ready to leave me walking home

Just out of curiosity, what mods would be recommended to get my 71 240 around the 200hp range. Nothing too extreme, no engine swaps, I want to keep the l24. But for those of you who have seen or done it, what did it take?

This is a lot tougher than it should be, I have read a bazillion threads and I guess I did not realze what I was getting in to..First, new U joints on the half shafts, one was brinnelled and the bolts at the hub end were loose, and I thought Ah haa..well nope did'nt fix it. Then I built a Ron Tyler mount....did'nt do it..then I tried the brand new bolts on the drive shaft that has nylock nuts,,,loose! what, also they were 5/16 SAE, should've been 8 mm X 30's..replaced them...Nope!! then ordered moustache bar bushings and while I was waiting one them I crawled under the car with it in Low gear and yanked the wheels around..guess what! The dang rear studs were loose on t…

Put a fresh reground cam in a few months ago due to a wiped lobe. Got fresh lash pads, resurfaced rockers, fresh oiler bar (that I cleaned), new oil with zinc to break it in. Checked it after 100 miles and was fine, check it again today after 700 miles and the intake lobe on #1 cylinder is wiped bad. It almost looks like the lobe was hitting the the rocker pad in different places instead of wiping across it. The intake was set at .08 when i installed and its now a .14 .... i don't know if thats enough to cause the strange wipe pattern. Im thinking the valve was stuck open. This could also explain the trouble i had getting home from charlotte. and of cours…

Can anyone give me the production dates when the following changes were made for cam oiling on S30's? The first scenario was a spray rail only (1970-1972?). The second scenario is cars that came with both a spray rail and an internally oiled cam (1973-?). The final scenario is cars that came from the factory with only an internally oiled cam (?).

Just called delta and they wont go any higher than 480 lift at 280 overall duration. I was hoping for at least .500 lift and .300 overall duration. But don't know who to call. Anyone know a cam grinder that will do this?

I started hearing a noise at the front of the engine yesterday that increases as rpms do and decreases as well. How can I tell if it is the waterpump, alternator, or ??? No water leaks or cooling issues. Alternator is charging. Suggestions? Thanks.

just picked up a 280z it. it was restored and was the last owner daily driver for about a month before he sold it to me. i drove home with it 2 hrs fine and he had to drive 2 hrs to that location so the z went through a total of hrs of driving. the next day i get into my car and my clutch was real loose like there was no pressure there. i start the car but cant put it into gear. so i shut it off and started the car without depressing the clutch pedal and it started so im thinking i have a stuck clutch! anyway to free this? without going into tranny and all that. and also i have a strong gas smell from the oil. and my dipstick isnt showing that there is oil in the car so …

Anyone know how much torque to put on the bolt that goes through the body which is used to mount up the mustache bar. Couldn't find the spec listed in the manual. I put 100 ft/lbs on it with some medium (blue) lock-tight. If it loosens up, you need to tear out the rear wheel vinyl. Yuck!

Hi all, I just finished replacing my shifter bushings with the brass eBay variety. Now it's very nice and tight. However, when I pulled the boot off of the shift linkage assembly, it was full of gear oil and in fact overflowed a bit onto the ground. Is this the way it's supposed to be?
