Guys, I am debating between 20W-40 and 20W-50. The weather in CA does get in the 90s in Summer but in colder winter it does come down in the 40-50 range. Right now I am at 20W-40. Let me know what you guys use. Also any good brand in the 20W-40 range with good dose of ZDDP?

I'm in the process of rebuilding a one, maybe two, or three, not sure, FC5W71B transmissions. It's just about the LAST thing I have yet to do on (to?) a Datsun. Always thought it was too hard and needed too many special tools. It's not. I want to record details of what I found and did along the process, but not in the usual way. -I will NOT take a video of the whole process. There are plenty great ones on YouTube. I WILL record the URL's of any helpful video's I find to help centralize the source for those videos and maybe critique each one's strengths. -I will NOT add the 300 photos I will take along the way. I WILL take photos and add notes on the…

Clutch cylinder is leaking as in image. Its brand new. any ideas what could be cause. I am 99% sure its installed properly? I am fine with buying another and putting it on if it will fix the issue? It starts leaking and pouring out when i pump the clutch. cant even keep enough fluid in line to attempt to bleed line. btw. i have been absent a couple months. I have my car somewhat running finally. i will post later in mechanical on current engine issues. thanks to everyone who has been super helpful.

Zedheads, Background: I’ve been having trouble getting my carbs adjusted and eliminating backfire. I’ve rebuilt both carbs with Z-Therapy kits, adjusted both floats, used a Colortune & Float Syncs to set up carbs, and a Uni-Syn to balance them. Ignition is new Pertronix electronic setup from MotorSport with a 3.0 Ohm coil. Still the car backfires under load when driving. So, I checked my valve clearances. Most of them were too tight, and I’ve adjusted them all to Haynes’ specs. When I checked the cam sprocket position, it appears that I have a “textbook” example of a stretched timing chain (see picture below), with the notch on the sprocket…

My speedometer cable o-ring must have finally failed after 44 years and my car is leaking trans fluid. Does anybody know the actual diameter and cross section of the o-ring? I could buy one from Z Car Depot, but I'd rather not pay a bunch of shipping and wait weeks for a $3 part if I can find the same o-ring at the local hardware store. Of course I gave away four transmissions before I moved to AZ last year and they all had the mounts and o-rings attached. Story of my life. 🙂

Hello Folks, Long time listener first time caller. I have a 1978 280Z I bought from this site in 2014. I'm in the process of a complete rebuild. I have a stage 4 motor from Eiji at Datsun Spirit. I've also sourced a 83' ZX transmission and an MFactory LSD. I'd like to get my R200 long nose rebuilt with 3.90 gears. Does anyone have a source for that? I'm having a hard time sourcing ring and pinion. A few photos. Thanks! Jason

Interesting situation going on here today. I drove the car for the first time in about a month and a half and noticed some oil droplets on the subframe below cylinder 1 (closest to radiator). I looked up and saw a slight oil trail seeping out of the spark plug hole. I pulled the plug just now and the threads are pretty soaked with oil and confirmed there is a slight amount of oil in the cylinder using a borescope camera. The car runs great without any blue smoke - is my spark plug not in tight enough or does the plug need a new crush washer? If I take a brush and clean off the threads will it make a better seal? I know these engines are old and without b…

Hi, first time poster here, I found copper flakes in my oil last week, despite having no rod knock. Car seemed to be running fine when I did the oil change. I was wondering if because I found out my bearing was going bad before it had "spun", should I try and attempt to just replace the bearing, whether it was main or rod, and move on? or should I just be looking for a new engine entirely. I took it to a shop for them to look it, and they quoted me at like 6500 at the high-end for repairs. I'm assuming that that's if the damage is extremely bad and pistons/block need to be resurfaced? I don't know where to go from here, so any advice is welcome. Thank you!
