hey guys, just wondering if something like this has any benefit to the trusty 'ol L24. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/HAD1/459.oap?pt=01365&ppt=C0331 my car is just a weekend toy, with occasional trips up the santa monica mountains. i'd like to think an oil cooler like this wouldn't hurt? the engine is mostly stock other than a drop-in k&n on '72 SU's, 6-1 header and 2.5 inch exhaust. stock cam, etc. it doesn't have any overheating problems. thanks for your input, -Mark

Last weekend, before putting the car away for winter, I took it to a self-serve car wash to do some detail cleanup on the inner fender wells. While I was there I decided to blast off the accumulated gunk on the cover plate for the rear diff. The accumulated gunk appeared to be mostly around the seam between the cover plate and the diff., and then back onto the cover plate. This started me thinking about maintenance for this component. At first blush I would think to drain and replenish fluid, and check torque on the cover plate bolts. To go one step further might include removing the cover plate and replacing the gasket. Are there other leak sources I should be lo…

L24 73 fly-cut pistons on L24 rods come out of the block by .030 inch. Does anyone know why the 73 pistons do this......why are they different from the 70,71 and 72 flat-tops as far as deck clearance? Is it OK to install these pistons with the early L24 heads without shaving the pistons since with the .030 positive deck clearance and the .060 gasket crush only gives you a .030 inch clearance.

What would happen if I just slid out my old cam(externally lubricated) and slid in one that was internally lubricated and I kept the spray bar? Loss of oil pressure? Increased viscosity drag? Decreased/increased wear? Big explosion? Any recommendations here?

Ive been up all night looking at different LSD swaps. It seems that the R200 out of a Turbo 300ZX is the easiest, but i have learned that they are very hard to come by. So im wondering what the most cost effective/ Easiest (Im reluctant to say easiest because i know it will be a lot of work either way) LSD swap will be. I suppose i could weld an open diff, but i really really dont want to. Thanks for any info. Ive used the search button but have not found anything about what might be the best way to go. Thanks

Noisy Tappets? 1 2 3

Hi all, Just a quickie, I have adjusted the Valve clearances on my Z (8 & 10 cold) and still notice that when hot, the tappets are quite noisy - Not so when cold. Is it just a trait of the L24 engine? - Or does thicker oil help?? Paul

When you have a minute can you pop over here and read this. I wasnt sure where to post this one. Since its really related to the engine, I thought I should have probably listed it here instead in the engine area, after I had already typed it in over there http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showpost.php?p=354558&postcount=32 or read it at the end of this page, that is, post #32 and the end of page 2 http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40938&page=2

Ok here is my issue... I bought a short block N42 built by Marc Sayer, performance engineering in 1999 that was wrapped and stored. He put dished pistons in it, but I want to go with flat tops and bump up the compression. L2.8 - 1mm (040) over flat tops To the point… I am having a hard time finding flattops pistons 040 over. Not looking for forged, Motor should be under 180 hp so cast is fine. Does anyone know who sells them or could you please point me in the right direction? This is my base specs "for now"……(going in a 70/240z) • l2.8 N42 Block flat top pistons punch 1mm over • E88 head w/ mild porting • 1mm head gasket • 270-80F cam grind II…

I apologize if I am placing this in the wrong forum, but I bought my 1973 240z with an l28 in it. What radiator do I get for it? an l24 one, or l28 one? Thanks!

I currently own a 1978 280z. I recently replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and cleaned out all the lines and gas tank due to it running extremely lean reaching 4k RPM's. Now as i try to push the car harder into the 5k RPM range it starts to lose power and the RPM's drop then kick up then drop again. This has also been happening in any RPM range when ever i floor it. My thought is the new fuel pump is sending too much fuel(or not enough) and there isn't enough air getting into the engine because it has a stock air-box which i cleaned out in hopes of fixing something but I had no luck. Ill post a video of the problem as soon as possible. Thanks.

Hey all, Ive been looking around for specs or even guesses on what kind of HP and Torque the OBX LSD can take, but i haven't been able to find anything. Anyone here have one with a V8 conversion? Has it held up well? Thanks in advance.
