72 240Z all original. clutch pedal failed (pushes down easily) does not allow shifting in gears. Transmission will engage in all gears when car is off and no clutching. Is this likely a cable loose? If so, can a novice mechanic repair it? Thanks

Look at picture first, is there supposed vacuum in those two hoses, if so, how much vacuum, when at idle? This is on a 1978 280Z EDIT: I RTFM (again) and I think I am understanding that there is only vacuum in these lines under certain operating conditions, but probably not when cold and/or at idle. So where else can I attach a vacuum meter on the 1978 280z to take some readings. I already attached to hose coming from Fueal Pressure regulator. but I wanted to check like 2other places, just to compare vacuum pressure.

Rotating the tires and counting drive line rotations, it came up at 4 1/2:1. No one around here had ever heard of such a thing in an r180. To end a bunch of local arguments, I pulled the cover off . The numbers on the ring gear are 37 X 8, which works out at a 4.50. Can anyone tell me from the picture what I actually do have, such as a brand name, or a type or how I can find out? (It is a 180 isn't it?) 4.5 seems pretty deep for a driver, but it will have an 83 5 speed in front of it (this is all in my 72 240 with an L28). I am open to opinions on what I should or shouldn't do

Started the process of dropping the transmission in order to replace the clutch and the first thing I found out of the ordinary was the shift lever had no bushings at all. After a search on the forum, I found the brass bushing trick it worked great! I put the shifter back in and it shifts like new!!

Hi, so I have a question regarding a new fuel filter. When I bought my car it came with an l28 but retained the flattop carbs from the 1973 year my car was made (1973 240z). Which fuel filter will it need? I've read that a 280z would use the fram g3359, but since mine retained the carbs, is it more probable that the original type fuel filter was retained and I should get the fram g4143? thanks!

I am new to this form so I hope I'm doing this right, I have recently started working on a 71 240Z with the original L24. The valves were ticking so I decided to check the clearance. when I removed the cover I imediatley noticed the oil feed tube above the cam followers was bent at the cast brace and the back section of the tube was not connected which obviousley wasen't allowing for proper lubrication of the last 2 followers. My qusetion is since the vehicle has been sitting for many years what could have caused this (possably heat)? And where can I find a part # or more importantly where can I find this part? I have already checked the local wrecking yards but no L24's…

Hey! So I just recently purchased a '78 280z. It, for the most part is in amazing condition, but it has a handful of noises/problems that I want to try to fix. If anyone can help with the following, that would be awesome! A metal 'shrill'/metal vibrating noise when car is parked or while accelerating. Wasn't as bad before, but has gotten progressively louder. Oil pressure gauge dips to near 0 when parked or at a stop, but moves back to the middle of the gauage when driving. Heat comes out of defroster vents, but not from the regualr vents on the dash. Water leaks into passenger side when it rains. Seems to be coming from the top left side of the passenger feet area. (Be…

I've been asked to move my early '74 260Z 4-speed transmission to my house. Before I go thru the trouble, I'm wondering what I should do with it. The trans has been in storage since the 80's. Keep, sell or toss? Value? Your thoughts? Thanks, FixItMan

Today I attempted to find out where my oil leak is coming from. The leak is at the rear of the oil pan but coming from where the engine meets the transmission. Does that mean it is the rear main seal? If so, can I replace it without removing the engine? As I was diagnosing the leak, I found exhaust coming from the hose which is connected to the PCV vent (top of the valve cover). I think this means exhaust is getting past the rings and into the case and eventually . Am I correct? Does this mean I need to rebuild the engine? Please help.

Hi guys, I recently removed my su's and air filter housing and after taking apart I noticed a hose on the air filter housing that didn't connect anywhere. I am wondering if it is supposed to be connected or not and where it would be connected if it is supposed to. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. \ Thanks
