Yesterday we dropped the new L 28 into the 70 Z! It has an F 54 block with the P 79 head. The beast was shaved .080, shimmed with a reground Stage III Isky cam! We used stainless swirl valves and SM needles. When we fired her up with open headers it sounded like Road Atlanta! Can't wait to get the new exhaust hooked up to feel how she runs. Nissan recommends 75w140 oil for their 2way clutch type LSD. I did some research & found a bunch of people who said they switched to redline 75w90 combined with redline's diff friction modifier. Those who did said it quieted the diff down a lot. I'm wondering why that is. If a different weight oil minimizes the amount of chatter does it mean it's making the clutch plates slip against each other more easily & therefore is making the diff less effective with less bite? So in other words it's actually a bad thing? Or am I seeing this wrong? Your thoughts please? Thanks -e

I finally got around to installing my RT differential mount this weekend. I got it from Brad (roostmonkey) over at hybridZ. Brad fabricated a bunch in his shop in MA out of heavy plate (+/- 3/16"), and it uses an Energy Suspension GM tranny mount. Very good quality. Unfortunately, I think I got one of the last few that he had. I just gotta say, I am very impressed with this upgrade. I can't wait to feel how much crisper the car accelerates and shifts with all of the slop taken out of the driveshaft. Even with a brand new Nissan differential mount and a good arrestor strap, I couldn't believe how much the nose of the differential could move (just by hand) with the …

Does anyone know if it is hard to remove a gas tank in order to clean it? I found build up (of old gas, I assume) in my fuel filter as my car seems to be starved of fuel. Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks!

I thought that the 280ZX all had R200 diffs in them. Yesterday I pulled the diff from a 1979 and I could swear it's an R180. Can anyone please help confirm for me? Here's a link to a few pix I took of the one I removed: http://www.pape.ws/allan_and_rosanne/Hosted-Pix/Rxxx%20Diff/

MY body shop removed this rusted and busted piece from my 72 Z. Is this the rear transverse link mount? What year should I replace it with to accomodate an R200 differential? Thanks

I was just wondering if there is any way to tell the difference in a 4 or 5 speed from a Datsun Z car, just by looking at the case? I have two transmissions. I have a numbers that are stamped in the bellhousing portion of the trans. As near as I can tell it's 763T007 ? The other one that I have has the numbers 7115512. **** Is there anywhere that I can just look up these numbers? **** I added some pics. I have two transmissions that look to be identical. There are pics of both of them. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Hello all. I am new to the Forum and filled with a lot of questions. I just got a 240 and am taking the advise from the members and going slowly. But at work, a interesting question arose. Well the 280 5 speed tranny bolt up in my 240 with NO modifications? It was a thought but I dont want to go at it with a blow torch! I also heard that I have to modify the shift lever. Is that true? Thanks!! Polecat

Okay, before I posted this topic I wanted to make sure I got rid of my points set up to make sure it isn't a rubbing-block issue or something, along with the rest of my ignition equipment. So I installed Pertronix, new cap, new rotor, new spark plugs and ignition wires. The only thing I haven't replaced yet is the coil. However, I still need to advance the distributor all the way it will allow to even run ok. If I retard it even a bit it starts to die. The vacuum advance is working, but it needs a decent idle rev to generate enough vacuum on the front carb. The engine only idles best if I take out the dizzy bolt and advance it past where the plate would normally all…

I am building up an engine and need to decide on this part and have a few questions. I know that there are the stock ones available from MSA: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/SMEC14A Then there are the Performance ones from MSA: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/PEM06 First question, are there others available out there and if so from who/where (links would be great if you have them)? Second question, the performance ones are cheaper than stock for some strange reason...it's usually the other way around, why? Third question, what are the differences and which is best for a high performance engine (NOT stock)...more specifically it's a 3.1L stroker? Thanx in …

I am rebuilding a stock E31 head, and I'm trying to determine how much to shave the head to get around 9.5-1 compression ratio. Also interested in knowing if 280Z intake valves will work with 260Z block, I know the exhaust valves will work. Thanks anyone
