Can anyone help me find a decent fan shroud for my 240z? I ordered the one from motorsport and it's junk for $80. It's cracked in several places and looks very cheap. If anyone can help me find a good plastic or metal fan shroud, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Ok, I know the differences between the l24, l26 and l28 engines when it comes to the bore and the stroke. But what I want to know is if there are any differences between the blocks themselves. My understanding is that the blocks before being bored and sleeved are all identical. In other words, I should be able to take a P30 and convert it to an F54 if I had access to a machine shop and money wasn't an option. Right? My second question assumes that the l24 to l28 conversion is possible and if it is then I should also be able to convert it to a 3.1L displacement like they do at Rebello Racing. I realize that the block may need to be resleeved to accomplish this, but I am ju…

I'm building an early '72 that currently has the completely stock L24 and 4spd. I'm losing the air pump and emissions garbage if I keep the SU's and stock drivetrain. I may dump a mild cam and header in it if I keep it NA. I've been beating around the idea of going with a custom fuel injection and boost setup with a five speed, in gain of fuel economy and performance. I'm just not sure if I should take the plunge. I know of a Celica GT with a 7MGTE that gets 30mpg, running a stock engine and pulls mid 13 second E.T.'s, which sounds awful tempting. I've heared of people using Mikunis and Webers for throttle bodies. I'd like to go this direction, but I'd like to see this se…

I have a 1978 280Z with 144+ miles that is a fair weather driver. I've added new carpet, seat covers, dash cover, headlights, tires, hood latch cable and bra. It runs great and when I had the oil changed the machanic I take it to (only does Japanese imports) feels it leaking oil from the rear seal and probably is getting oil on the clutch. Also leaking around the valve cover. His estimate is about $1000. I do have some minor rust behind each front rocker panel otherwise it looks very good. Again, runs strong and is fun to drive. Should I invest in getting the engine work done? Would rather spend the money on rust repair and save for a total repaint. Any advice wo…

Hello guys. This past Friday I did an oil change in my Z. Decided to give 20w50(VR1) weight oil a try as the temps here in Tucson are getting a bit warmer. Went to the local store bought six quarts of oil (one spare) and a Bosch oil filter. Put everything together added 5 quarts oil and away I went. When I rev the car up now to about 4k and let the throttle go it will make this rather annoying rattling sound from the valve cover for a few seconds. Any ideas? Is the oil just too thick to lubricate the cam at idle. The pressure is sitting exactly where it needs to. I pulled the fill plug out and the cam is most definitely covered in oil. The sound was not present this mor…

I have a new temp-sensor to install. I have the housing, threaded retainer and, of course, the water temp sensor. I even have a new cap and thermostat (might as well replace 'em while I have it apart) and all new gaskets. I know to use pipe tape on the retainer, but do I need any sealant between the retainer and the sensor?

After hearing a rather bad noise coming from somewhere more or else under me, I discovered that I was in need of new driveshaft u-joints. I ordered a couple of the spicer joints from MSA and went to put them on this morning, but I found that I don't have a wrench or vice grip that it large enough for the job. I brought the new joints to my locate autos parts place and they have ordered me the right tool for the job - but alas, being in Alaska, it will be a good two weeks until it comes in; so here's my question - what it the worst that can happen, if I keep driving with the rather shaky set of u-joint I have now until I'm able to change them? Or should I sacrifice a coupl…

I'm thinking of buying the MSA short throw shift kit. Has anyone installed one and can you give your opinion on how they like it? Here's a link: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/PRC02A

Hey there, How do you remove the radiator fan and fan clutch? I am working on my cars engine and also have a spare engine that I plan to keep for parts. It would take up much less space when disassembled. I haven't seen any obvious bolts that look like they hold it on. Thanks. carl
