I am doing some final restoration work on my 1970 240Z and have been considering swapping out the original 4-Speed Tranny for a 1973 240Z 4-Speed I have because I've heard that the 73' is a superior unit. I have 3 questions (1) what are the differences in the two units - is the 73' a superior tranny and why? and (2), the 73' tranny is marked only with an "L4" and bellhouse # 7609776. It seems to have a shift stick mount about 2.5" to 3" further back than the original 70' tranny even though the overall length of the 2 trannys are identical. (3) I've been told that the later model transmissions of the 240Z models just "bolt right up" but would like to have this verified a…

I have been trying to drive my old '77 280z as much as possible, my problem is when you step on the gas a little to hard it acts like the clutch is slipping. my thoughts were that my dad did not replace it and the car now has 418,177 miles. going thru some of his old repair records, back in 3/17/04 he had the clutch, master cylinder, release arm and pivot ball replaced with 400,000 miles on the odometer. clutch slave cylinder was replaced on 2/16/04. I have not had much time to check things out, just wanted some advice as to what should i look at.

OK I found this JE Piston set a while back when a Z garage was be thrown out (quite literally). I contacted JE Pistons and with the job number got the specifications on the pistons in the set (see attachment). I asked about the other parts in the kit they told be that someone else put that together. When I got the fax I found they were made for EVO CYCLE ENGINEERING in Lake Forest CA. I called the number on the fax for them and got someone very confused on the other side of the phone (my Spanish is not very good and he didn't know what a 240Z was or Datsun). I then did a internet search for the company, all I could find about them was remnants of websites that people…

So, what's this I've read a couple of times about the 240zs with flat-top pistons tending to catch on fire? I'm assuming that's what mine's got in it until I open it up and find out otherwise. What can a person do, besides change these out (if they do indeed tend to catch fire) to minimize the chances of it happening? Thanks!

I want to turbo my L28 280z fuel injection, i found turbo kits on ebay but it says 280zx, does that mean i need a 280zx engine? I thought that they used the same block? Just trying to figure out if i can buy it and bolt it on or if i need to do a whole engine swap? You probably need more information, please get back to me and tell me what else you need so i can figure this out! Thanks ~Brett
