I have a 78 280z that I believe is stock. What should teh cylinder compression levels be in LBS per SQ Inch? How much should they vary from one cylinder to another?

Working away on the '78 Z. When driving I have 2 bothersome problems: accelerator is sticky, rather than smooth as I depress it with my foot speedometer is jumpy and erratic when cold, then just a bit jumpy Are these problems related to old cables? Davey G

I was kind of curious on what engine or which year car came with a 1 row pulley. I am suspecting pre-73 Z's w/o a/c. My early non-ac 260Z has a 2 row where one row that drove the smog pump has been empty for many years . Here are the weights from datsunzgarge.com: 3-row: 8 pounds 2-row: 6 pounds 1-row: 3.5 pounds I would like to get a single row more for appearance rather than any real or imagined performance gains.

I started my 72 first time in 5 months and everything was quite ok, except that radiator leaked. I had it dried months ago and now after refilling it with pure water (i needed to move the car 2meters so i didnt put any coolant) I noticed small pond of water front of the car and i inspected the radiator. Seems that the leak is in front row. So does the magical "radiator repair" fluids work? I dont want to overheat the engine but i dont want to buy new radiator..

I have a 1976 280Z, it starts up cold just fine, runs great. But, after I turn it off for about 15 to 20 mins, it will run really rough and then smoth out after about 45 sec to a minute. Any advise?

I have this problem with the transmission where it slips out of 5th if I let off of the gas quickly:ermm:. Had this problem on a '69 VW also, but never fixed it. What causes this, and what's the fix? Thanks.

Hi all, i have to replace the clutch on my '77 280z, along with any thing that falls apart when i get it out. Is this something that i can accomplish by my self in the back yard on ramps or jack stands ? I checked with a local shop that does work on all my other vehicles and they wanted $700 out the door and i am not ready to dump that much money into her at this time :disappoin

Hey guys. About three months ago I did an oil change and poured in some 10w-30 VR1 into my 280z. Two weeks ago I noticed the oil pressure is a bit low for my liking. (it sat about halfway up at acceleration, usually it sits just under 3/4). Anyhow I pulled the dipstick and to my dismay it was VERY low. Went to the local NAPA and bought two quarts. Poured on in one and was on me way. (oil registered great). Today I checked the oil once again and it was again getting to the L on the dipstick. I've driven about 300-350 miles since the last fill up. I have don't have any white/blue or any other colored smoke coming from the exhaust. The exhaust doesn't smell like oil at all…

I had to pull the head on my L24 to change the blown head gasket. Two of the head bolts broke off. I didn't have the time or the tools to deal with that, so I took it over to a local engine builder. They did a nice job on it. Today, I want to put everything back together. I noticed that the cam has moved out of place from where it was when I took it in to get fixed. I can't seem to get the cam to rotate. That seems odd. I did not want to force it. So I have a couple of questions. What is the best way to rotate the cam? How much force does it take to rotate it? Also, does it spin in only one direction? TIA, Marty

Pulled my old water pump on the 78 280Z and I had 4 bolts of various sizes. One was bigger then the other three. The other three were of the same size but of different lengths. Does this sound right? I'm wondering if I should have had 5 bolts holding in the water pump. Am I missing a bolt or does the 4 of various sizes sound right?? Thanks. Jeff Woodard
