Okay I was starting to warm up the engine today to get a baseline readings on my original set of SU' before I remove the intake and install my new Ztherapy carbs. However, their was a prolonged screaming that was audible above the engine. I got out my 3 foot screwdriver and listened to every thing that rotates. Sure enough it was the tensioner for the AC right in front of the valve cover (you can see it in between the front of the valve cover and fan, sorry for the old picture). I removed the belt and the noise stopped. When I spin it, its very rough sounding as I think its bearing has given up the ghost so to speak. Now as we all know the AC units on our cars were …

How can I tell if my car has factory A/C or some aftermarket system? Car is a 1970 Z. Looks like a York compressor, positioned lower left under the distributor. There is a small dial for the A/C attached to the bottom of the dash to the right of the steering column. Does not work at present. Thanks, Mike

Can I use an E48 balance tube on an E88 intake? If so, is it a direct bolt on or does it need an adapter.

Gentlemen I am a recent member to the club and have purchased a 72 240 with a engine rebuilt (L28) by "Sumo Engine Co. (Canada 1992) Ltd They were located in Vancouver BC I have the warranty and service papers but nothing more than that. The work was done in 1995. The felllow I purchased it from said it had a performance can in it (very apparent) Anyone heard of this company?? - I know little about performance builders for Z cars and would appreciate any info out there. Personally - the motor seems a little over the top for a street car (as I wish to use it for) and I am considering bringing it back to a stock L28 any info or comment that would help? regards Dave

Hi all, I've FINALLY launched into troubleshooting my emissions equipment. Everything in the EGR system checks OK, except for one item I'm not sure about -- the thermal vacuum valve. It's the device with engine coolant running through it that supplies vacuum to the EGR system after the engine warms up. In the EGR INSPECTION section of my FSM (p. EC-13), it says: *Disconnect one end (BPT valve side) of vacuum hose connecting thermal vacuum valve to BPT valve. *increase engine speed from idling to 3000 - 3500 RPM *Make sure that thermal vacuum valve is close and that throttle chamber vacuum does not exist at end of vacuum hose. If a vacuum is present, replace thermal vac…

I've been trying to find a Crankshaft Pulley for this 280ZX (NT) I'm rebuilding. So far, haven't been able to find anything reasonably priced. Anyone know a place that might have one? (or if someone has a spare?)

Ok I searched here first to see if some had posted these already but found nothing. I'm looking for the factory motor specs, you know displacement, bore, stroke, cam lift things like that. I have a built L24 motor and was trying to figure out the differences in motor specs. Thanks a lot.

I have a 78 280z stock in all aspects. I am puting on headers amd am thinking about replacing the long block with a rebuilt long block. My research to date scares me with the fly by night engine rebuild houses that are on the market. DOes anyone have a recommendation on a good house to buy a long block?

I am weighing different options on a differential mount replacement. Someone (you know who you are, thanks again btw) sent me a .jpg on one, Ive attempted to contact a member over at Hybrid on a Ron Tyler type but have not heard back from him in a week. I am just doing some searching and ran across this mount on Ebay. Anyone have any knowledge of this type or have an opinion on this? Thanks http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Nissan-240z-280z-Billet-solid-differential-mount_W0QQitemZ260486423000QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20091005?IMSfp=TL0910051810005r8350 Just found another one here... http://www.newoldstockmotorsports.com/product_info.php?products_id=58

I was having a problem with my 72 Z hesitating and backfiring when warm, and no top end HP. I did a complete tune up, valves, points, plugs, carbs, fuel filter, and still had the problem. I never would have thought of it, but one of my friends suggested the coil was bad, and sure enough, replacing the coil fixed the issue. I wish I would have thought of that first. DT
