Hi, has anyone an information that might help: Looking at building a 2.8 motor with the following: 2.8 block, 2.8 crank, 2.4 conrods, standard pistons and a n42 head. The compression ratio with 2.8 conrods is 8.29:1, where if you use the 2.4 conrods the compression ratio is 10.71:1 Has anyone come across this before, are there any issues with using the longer rods...thanks..any feed back will be fantastic

Took on the valve seals in both cars today - started at 1030 this AM and gave up at 1030 PM - need two more hours to get it done. Bad luck - first cylinder (first valve) of the 240 I dropped a seal into the timing belt cavity (actually slipped out of my well oiled hand when trying to install).:stupid::tapemouth No way to see it or find it - so I carried on and finished the job thinking it must be going to the bottom of the oil pan and no harm done. I tried a long handled magnet - no joy. No luck at all - started the 280 after supper. First valve/first cylinder popped the old seal and the SOB flew into the air two feet and went right down the timing belt cavitiy. What …

I'm replacing the clutch on my '73 and I'm looking for advice in removing the flywheel. I've done it before using very primal techniques. This time I want to try something less savage. Ideas? Thanks in advance, ---Chris

This is my first Z so I am still learning. I'm about ready to put my car on the road, 1977 280Z. I have taken it out for test runs and all seems well. At idle it it seems to be loading up and running a little ruff so I thought it would be wise to check the valve lash. But when I get the #1 exhaust lope in the vertical position the rotor in the dizzy is pointing at #4? If I set the rotor to point at #1 on the cap and the timing mark is set on zero (tdc) the #1 exhaust lope is about 90 degrees off of vertical. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, I just replaced my clutch master cylinder and now the clutch fork is moving in the wrong direction.. The part number for the cylinder is correct with what It shows i need.. What would be causing this problem? Also, there is only about 1-2 inches of clutch off the floor. Its like the rod isnt long enough?? What is this!? 72 240z Stock with a 4 speed from another 240z (everything worked with the old MC)

I have this 5 speed that came out of the 71 24o I bought a few months back. I have searched here and Hybridz and I think I know what tranny it is but I would like to make sure. I believe it to be a euro 5 speed..please see pics: Complete tranny: Some casting: Shifter: I can take other pics if needed. The car was serviced at Bob Sharps dealership through the 70's...so I will ask him next month when I see him about "swaps" they might have been doing back in the day. I just know these 5 speeds don't come up to often and I wanted to make sure I have my Z knowledge down here So it safe to say these trannys came in the 240's none US and also are referred as a dog le…

I currently have a '71 that I'm building up, and I plan on buying a mild cam/spring/rocker kit and forged pistons... I see L28 pistons all over the place and not much on L24's. I've heard that an L28 piston will give you a lower deck height, thus reducing compression and increasing valve clearance. My questions are this: Is what I'm being lead to believe true? If so, how much lower is the deck height over an L24 piston, and what would the new compression ratio be? Thanks Steve

Well, I have been trying to figure out for the longest time what the heavy vibration my car does at any speed above 35mph. I balance the tires etc. The balancing helped a little. But after last monday I think I know the culprit. Anyway, long story short I was on the interstate driving and then boom I hear this long rattle and after words I run over several metal pieces. I pull over immediately and check underneath. I see my exhaust pipe hanginf kind low so i figured it fell apart. I call AAA car gets on the tow truck and the driver points out that it is not the exhaust its the driveshaft thats hanging down. Evidently the 4 bolts came out that connects it to the different…

Hello, I took out my spark plugs last night to check them since I am looking to fire up my Z for the first time in 5 years or so. Here was my dilemma that popped up though. I was putting spark plugs back in and all had been going fine, until of course, the last one I was putting in: #6. So I noticed I had put it in only a few threads and it seemed tight. I looked at the plug and it looked like it was a little off center. I took it out and tried to put it in again. It did the exact same thing. I looked at the chamber and it looks a little messed up. If something happened to the threads, since this happened with two other plugs as well, what are my options to fix this? Any …
