I know we have discussed determining what car an engine came from and how it is impossible based upon many many factors. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me ROUGHLY where this engine may have come from? The number on it is 2776. Story is that the guy sold the car it came out of a 2-3 years ago, the person who bought the car was supposed to come back and get the engine and tranny yet never did. Fast forward to last weekend, I went and bought it from the guy who was tired of tripping over it in his garage. He told me that the VIN on the car it came from (the one he sold 2-3 years ago) was in the 300s. Not that it matters, I'm just curious.

Is it possible to use the input shaft from an early 4 speed to replace the input shaft on a '82/83 5 speed? The 5 speed input shat is scored where the seal sets. I would like to rebuild the 5 speed so it can be reinstalled in place of the 4 speed, which has a bad 3rd gear synchro and bearings a getting a little loud also.

Has anyone here run XADO oil in their Z? A buddy of mine just got some and after doing some reading I'm not too sure what I think about it. I'd just go ahead and give it a try, but its pretty expensive and I am kinda weary of putting in something like this. Apparently it will help reduce engine noise and other internal problems. I've come to realize that if there is an opinion I can trust about things like this, I can find it here. Let me know what you think. http://www.xado-us.com http://www.atomicoil.com/

I am about to swap from my stock cam to a performance cam and I have a question. In order to pull the cam, I need to move the fuel rail out of the way as it wraps around the head and blocks the cam from sliding out the front of the towers. Since the injector hoses are so short and they are clamped on, I don't see an easy way to get the rail out of the way without disturbing the injectors. Anybody have a trick that will save me time?

Hi guys, Finally got my carbs balanced (72 240 with SU's) but I can't seem to get a smooth idle. Trying for 750-800 rpm and get a rough labored idle, runs perfectly at 950-1000. Have fire to all the plugs, timing doesn't seem to affect it (as in cure the rough idle part). So, any recommendations on what to do? The intake water passages have been bypassed on this (wasn't me), would this cause my condition? I plan on hooking all that back up soon. Thanks, Justin

Hi, can anyone point me towards a thread or photo on the site that shows the gearbox mount for an automatic Australian delivered 240z and whether it's different to a 5speed manual one. I have an automatic shell but I'm building it as a manual, I purchased the project in pieces (I don't recomend doing this to anyone!) and I've also moved house recently so it will help if I know what I'm actually looking for in the shed. I might not even have one. Thanks!

This is my first post since purchasing a 78 280Z. I picked the car up at an auction and I am in the process of getting it up and running as it came from the factory. The previous owner replaced and modified the existing EGR valve and neglected to transfer the OEM identification number. The replacement I purchased requires an orifice washer be installed to regulate the exaust gas into the intake manifold. The vendor supplied about twenty five different orifice washers of various sizes. If anyone out there, who has a '78 Z with an original EGR valve, can look and see if there is a number stamped on the unit. The number will look like this: 14710-H9810 or similar. I hav…

Sorry to anyone who read my post in "Open Z Car Discussion"....just hoping for an answer if I put it here. The car is a 1973 240Z, and I installed a 280 ZX 5 speed/R-180 (4.11) combo this Winter. Everything seemed OK, until I got the car on the highway for a shake down run. Car is a little tough downshifting from 2nd to 1st, not that unusual in my experience. But the car will not go into 5th gear at all. Just wants to grind, and I was afraid to force it. Its also a little tough getting in into reverse, but does go in with a little effort. I didn't cut the tranny tunnel, the car was built in 10/72, so I don't think I needed to cut it. The clutch/pressure plate/rele…

Hi everyone. My 78 has had a little oil leaking recently. I traced it to a canister looking thing next to the oil filter (opposite side from the dip stick). This part has two terminals on the end, and a connection to it covered by a rubber bootie. Anyway, can someone tell me what this part is, and how serious of a problem it is? Hopefully it's something I can fix myself. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
